I mean... Sanders was committed to Florida Atlantic before Dad pulled him to Jackson State and then to Colorado. I think Dad did everything he could to make sure his son had lots of opportunities to toss the ball around, but his talent level isn't anywhere near Dad.

I think Klatt… the biggest Colorado homer, probably surmised the Sanders issue best by saying “it was mostly because it was a weak quarterback draft, with very few teams desperate for a quarterback, and everyone saw Sanders as a backup”. He basically said while the interviews went bad and daddy sanders is a potential issue, most organizations would take the risk on a controversial player if he had the potential to start from day 1.

Really all this came down to who was going to get Jaxson Dart. I think there were really only two prizes in terms of quarterbacks in the draft and if the Giants didn’t trade up to get Dart then there would have been some crazy trades by the few teams in desperate need of a quarterback to get him and it might have forced someone to take a reach on Sanders and Milroe.

I also think Aaron Rodgers weighed heavily on the Steelers draft decisions and might have limited the number of desperate for quarterback teams.

Sanders (the kid) had too many things working against him to get drafted any higher than what he did. He came across as arrogant and entitled, while his dad made it clear in the media that he would dictate who he would go to and not go to in the draft. Then on top of that, he just didn't have NFL starting QB traits, and like many analysts (former players as well) have said. If the NFL DOESN'T see you as a starting QB, they're not picking you in the first to mid rounds, they're just not. So taking all of that into consideration, it shouldn't have been a shock to anyone that he got drafted in the 5th round. Now, he has the opportunity to prove everyone wrong and earn his reputation. But as a 5th round pick, he's not going to get the length of time to prove himself like someone picked earlier in the draft. If he doesn't come in and show promise soon, he'll be cut.

Dulac, one of the Steelers most trusted journalists, kept on challenging everyone who was grading Sanders and Milroe as 1st rounders to where they were getting their information. He basically called this one of the weakest drafts for quarterbacks that he had ever seen with only one true 1st rounder amongst them.

Why do people keep saying Ewers went undrafted
Ahhh, you forgot one. The one with the towel on the massage table over in the corner. They will have 5 QBs on roster total. He may be on the injured list, but they will have to do something with him.
I left him off on purpose. He's out for the season and is not part of the equation.

But he is not. He has to be paid through 2026 , guaranteed, and his latest medicals project an October/November return. He will very much be part of the equation, even if it is to add fuel to the comedy show. While Cleveland was drafting Dillon , Watson was doing this-

Watson took to Instagram on Day 2 of the draft with another in a long series of videos showing his workouts/progress as he fights back from injury.

The same team that drafted that clown show in Manziel drafted Shedur Sanders..... what could possibly go wrong.
Did you see the look on the faces of everyone in the draft room when they picked him? It was obviously "not happy" looks. I don't think anyone in that draft room was on board with that pick. They all looked ticked off or disappointed. Someone must have called in a favor.

I thought for sure Dallas would draft him. It is just the type of thing jerruh would do.

The GM and HC were asked about their reaction and they both said, "We were tired and sometimes they don't have the camera's timed up with the pick." In other news I have a flourishing business selling snow cones and Umbro shorts in Antarctica

dumb prank
True, and kind of cruel. Like calling an aspiring lawyer and telling him he failed the bar exam.
I listened to the audio, however, and even during the call, Shadeur knew it was a prank.

The appropriate punishment for something like this would be a very public in-person apology by the perp, Hopefully followed by a public acceptance of that apology, and the two going out to have a beer together or go throw some football together to demonstrate contrition and forgiveness.

I think the NFL was so stung by the charges that racism explained Shedeur's failure to get drafted higher that they wanted to jump on this and show they takle Sanders very seriously, That and to discourage future pranksters from following in this guy's shoes.

You're right, this was done to send multiple messages. One, that they do take Sanders' NFL employment seriously, and two, that this type of breach will have consequences. I think they handled it correctly.

I think $350,000 is a bit steep for a dumb college prank but I get your point.
The problem was that the dad/Defensive Coordinator left his work resources unattended, which had personal "private information" that ultimately allowed his son to get access to it. In my field of work, that is a HUGE "no, no" and can get me pushed to my final written warning or fired. I get that the NFL isn't like most jobs, but I do imagine they have a privacy policy of not allowing friends, family members, or anyone else not employed by the organization access to company information. I think the high fine was more because the organization and DC weren't responsible enough for the information of another player, which is probably covered under some "player privacy" policy of the CBA.

You are of course, right.
I bet that is the last time someone leaves that info unguarded.
I also bet that teams tell staff, "never take this info home and on draft day, your place of duty is in the office, so there is no 'crossing of the streams.'"
