I just thought I'd let yall know. :-)

Some topics for discussion...both Karl Rove and George Bush proved dead wrong in their analysis of the election. Rove even made specific predictions about VA with Allen winning by 30,000 votes. Whoops.

A LOT of conservative democrats won in quite a few swing states. I think this fact alone will give the democrats a moderate position to govern from and help out quite a bit in 2008.

Nancy Pelosi was not a national candidate. It was a stupid move to put her pictures in campaign commercials when no more than 20% of voters could identify her in a lineup. Furthermore, she and Rahm Emanuel deserve mountains of praise and all of the acolades coming toward them. She for holding the democratic party together...Emanuel for really and truly orchestrating a FLAWLESS congressional campaign. HE is a rising star and pay close attention to him.

Howard Dean was roasted, even by me, for his national strategy and spending money in red states. As shocked as I am, his plan made inroads and his plan worked. Gotta give him credit for that.

The democrats winning the senate was against HUGE odds. I don't think I can overstate how strong of an effort it took to make that happen.

Parker Griffith is going to be your next Lt. Governor in Alabama. Congrats to the good doctor on a much deserved state senate win.

Roll Tide to you all. If you need me, I'll be gloating.

I don't wish to gloat, but.....Happy days are here again, the skies above are clear again, let us sing a song of cheer again....Happy Days Are Here AGAIN!!!!

It becomes incredibly clear now why Howard Dean is so hated and mocked. MT, VA, PA, MO were out of the question about a couple of years ago.

"Allah akbar! This makes for great celebration! Now, we can do our next attack on the Evil America dogs. You see I kept my mouth shut and my Nancy won. Last time my messages made cause for Bush winning again and this must not happen again."

Dean makes a monkey out of rove. Rove has orchestrated the most devastating GOP loss in recent history.

Republicans shut out: No House, Senate, or Governor pickups for Republicans. That breaks every record for futility. No one can ever do worse than they did this year.

Thanks karl.

And THANKYOU Dr. Dean.

Will we now see a bunch of mad Repubs pulling for osama to hit us again? That seems to be the new theme with that crowd.

It's looking like the Dems have a pretty good chance of taking Montana in the Senate, and that will leave an EXTREMELY bitter recount process in Virginia. I'd expect this one to be as ugly as the campaign was. If Webb comes out as the winner, it'll be an extremely unexpected event. The Democrats were projected to take the House, but if they take the Senate as well... wow.

Gloat away.

Let's all hope that Pelosi means what she says when she talks of reconciling with the other side. The specific issues are less troubling to me than how both sides have acted over the last 3-4 years. Politics has gotten to be extremely childish. If the Dems act like adults and actually govern in a sensible way, I'll be happy. Based on their results, republicans moved away from what they were sent to do - make gov't smaller and more accountable - and thusly deserve to lose the house.

Frankly, I'm ready for something besides the talking points of the day to be the talking points of the day ;)

Any predictions how bush will act in his press conference later today?

Will he dig his heels in, fighting the mandate the country gave the Dems?

Or will he try to salvage something from his Presidency with a spirit of cooperation?

I expect something like this:

election_bush_finger.jpg

Yeah, pretty much. Despite all his bluster about how the Republicans would keep control of both houses, Bush has had his staff researching ways to implement policies via executive orders, rather than going through Congress. It will be interesting to see what happens if he continues to try and expand executive authority, though.

Howard Dean has got to be feeling vindicated after all the crap that has been thrown at him during the last two years.

Now, let's see what the Dems do. As much as I am interested in what an investigation would turn up, I'm not sure the country really needs another prolonged presidential investigation.

Oh, and just for the record, Spencer Bacchus did NOT win my congressional district w/ 100% of the vote--I wrote myself in.

"The president's not the kind of guy who is going to be somber about things," said press secretary Tony Snow. But he added: "They have not gone the way he would have liked."

The president watched the results in the White House residence, where Snow described the mood as "businesslike."

"The president often likes to conduct business while curled up in a fetal position on the floor," Snow explained. "It helps him concentrate."

The Dems had 40 years of Congressional control and nearly bankrupted this country with social spending programs and pork. Hopefully they will get it right this time around, but I'm not holding my breath.

I live in a district with the most ardent tail-wagging Republican sycophant you'd ever see in Washington. Usually he gets 85% of the vote. Last night, a novice Democrat pulled in 45% of the vote. The guy had zero $$ from the nat'l party, and he ran a shoestring budget campaign.

When you see this happen on the local level in a bleeding red state, you know the national party is in deep doo-doo.

LMAO - I love how only Dems are the ones that get "mandates" when they win.

What's interesting is that Dems had to run conservative candidates to get this "mandate".

What's disappointing is that some truly good Republican candidates lost because of what knuckleheads elsewhere did. Steele completely dismantled Cardin in debates, Cardin dissed the local NAACP and Cardin still ended up winning.

Madrid in New Mexico was left stuttering and stunned in debates with the Repub incumbent Wilson yet now the race is a toss-up.

This was supposed to be an election where people were "votin' fer change" yet Michigan kept all the incumbents...and Michigan has probably the worst state economic situation in the nation overseen by an administration that believes the solution is more government regulations and central control of the state economy.

Minnesota elected the first Muslim to Congress (a Dem)...what they don't tell you is that this is a man that has ties to CAIR.

Good news from a Conservative standpoint:
- Is the ultra-liberal Pelosi going to be able to keep all these newly elected moderate/conservative Dems in check with a slim majority?

- Michigan passed a law banning the use of affirmative action (racial preferences) by state agencies and universities.

- States with same-sex marriage bans grew by 7.

- Restrictions on the use of eminent domain passed resoundingly.

- Prop 87 in California (big taxes on oil to fund alternative energy research) was defeated.

- Congress' leading anti-illegal immigration activist (Tancredo) won his fifth term by a large margin.

- Arizona approved 4 ballot measures targeting illegal immigration

- Ned Lamont loss.

Good news for everyone:

- Narrow majorities in both houses mean lots of gridlock.

Bad news for everyone:

- Making the tax cuts permanent looks like it will be off the table for at least two years.

- Will a Dem controlled Congress turn Iraq into Vietnam?
