Does anybody know what position he will start out in the fall? He might be closer to a LB right now but does anybody think that if he gained about 20-30 pounds that he would be a devastating pass-catching TE?

Theres a bit of a log jam at TE so if he wants to play sooner i'd say he's got a better chance at LB.

Re: Devonta Bolton

I've heard that he would get a look at safety. But the way I look at it, as long as he is on the field it can't be a bad deal for us.

Re: Devonta Bolton

I'm very interested to see where the coaches put him. He could play any number of positions.

I think we will see him at LB or WR. I think he'll get a look at LB first.

His playmaking ability makes me think he would excel at an H-back spot, but I would love to see someone with his athletesicm on defense. I so long for the days of mean, aggresive defenses from the early 90's. It is so awesome to watch another team just get demoralized by going out on offense time and time again and do nothing but run into a brick wall of a defense. I love it!

There were talks of him being a wideout, and its still a mystery. I don't think anybody knows which side of the ball he'll certainly be on, I still have thoughts of him being a LB. But with the way Saban is known for moving players around until they find their niche, its a mystery. We got a lot of guys who are versatile and can play LB in our system, and a lot of guys that can be WRs so he'll have his opportunities.

watch out making statements like that, there are some that think such defenses are a thing of the past

With the wide open offenses today, it isn't as common, but good coordinators can find and exploit the chinks in any offense if they have a group of athletes with the right attitudes and study habits. I certainly hope to see it coming soon to our Crimson Tide team.

Well, I like to have my cake and eat it too. I want my team to have an iron curtain defense and an unstoppable offense. OK, that off my chest, viewing other teams in a dispassionate manner, I like to see a balance. I hated those NFL games when the defenses got so far out ahead that you were watching the same plays over and over, and then a 7-3 final score. At the same time, I hate to see a 51-48 game when it looks like the defense simply surrenders at any point after three yards past the LOS. Did I mention I wanted it all? :D

You mean you want to whip every team on the schedule by at least 28 points? :eek2: Me too. :biggrin2: But, if I had to choose I think I'd rather see the 7-3 than the 51-48 myself. Just comparing the plight of Bama '05 and last year's Louisville team I think if I had to pick one part of the equation it would be a very solid defense.

I agree. I'd rather have a team like the 05 team with the best defense in the nation than a Louisville of 07 with a great offense and 0 D. Just like I'd rather have the 92 Bama team with amazing D and good enough O than the 05 USC team with amazing offensive talent and decent enough D.

And even when not talking about my team I'd rather see (to just throw names out there) OSU-Michigan games finish in a 10-9 or 14-12 victory for a team than a 50-44 game. Only time I really appreciate great offense is when he beats great defense and QBs or RBS or WRs are just putting on an amazing uncharacteristic performance.

Just like with Baseball to me. I'd rather see a 2-1 pitchers dual than 12-10 game with homer after homer. Now in basketball, give me a shootout:biggrin2:

I would place my money on him starting at safety. Just based on what I've seen of him, he doesn't really look like he could put on a LOT more weight, and he has very good speed for his size. At 6-4, 220 (according to Rivals.com), he would be pretty thin for a Saban LB, and he has the tools to be a very good safety.

However, I think LB and WR would be the next two positions he'd be considered for. The only reason I would be hesitant about saying he will line up at WR is that I feel we have several guys that can do what he does. Between Earl Alexander, Mike McCoy, and Julio, we have some big guys to make catches in traffic, and I'm not sure Bolton is much faster than any of them.

I could be way off, but I'd say: 1. S, 2. OLB, 3. WR

LOL, I can agree with you on that! But after last year's Ark and LSU games, I'm to the point that regardless of what the offense is doing, I just want to see our defense go out and punch the other team in the mouth on 1st down, kick 'em in the gut on 2nd down, and give 'em a swift roundhouse kick to the jaw on 3rd down, and as they walk off the field on fourth down yell at the opponent "I like this kind of party baby!"

One of my favorite years of all time was 1973. We opened against California and beat them 66-0.
Later we beat Virginia Tech 77-6.
That's what I'm talking about. And that's what I want!!!

I know one thing and that is CNS and staff will find the best spot to develop this kind of Athletic talent. I hope, as all of you do, that we will get some very good athletes that might come in to play several different positions. The key is to find what they are best at to help Bama and get them to the next level. Years past we have had to settle for the position of need and are still seeing one player moved around #10, but with better overall talent coming in we can hope to develop it for the best of both parties.

ill lean toward WR/TE/Hback

while i would love to see him on D, bama is bringing in some quality LBs(Harris/Hightower/Upshaw/possibly Jordan/possibly Barron/likely Nico Johnson out of the 09' class)

Looking at his film it is hard to predict where he will end up. It's hard to know how big he will get. He certainly doesn't struggle to catch the ball. He could be a future amazing TE. He is physical, so he could play D, but he really seems to have skills catching the ball. I just have a hard time figuring who will not pan out in this class. We know some will not, but they all seem so capable in this class.
