Did anyone hear that idiot on Finebaum yesterday?

The thing is, I didn't necessarily disagree with a lot of what he said. However, it was just the arrogance with which he came across that turned me off. Basically questioning whether a lot of the other members of the media should have been allowed into Media Days and then listening to how "unlike a lot of media members" he "ALWAYS call it just how he sees it." He just came across a little high and mighty to be an A.M. radio host in Montgomery...

he coulda fooled me!! In fact, I can't really tell the difference between he and David Lamb. If he is such a Bama fan, what was he trying to do, pacify the Agburn family!

I wouldn't necessarily call him an idiot, I listen to Longshore & McKnight every morning. He loves to stir the pot so to speak. That's why the station advertises the 2 hosts as "the sand paper and silk of sports talk radio." They've both been around the Montogmery market for a while. Longshore (Bama) loves to rub people the wrong way, especially McKinght (Aub). Longshore is very arrogant and at times very ignorant in his way of thinking. (I believe his philosophy regarding Saban is more of why all the hype? The man hasn't even coach a game yet.) I will say this, he hates Auburn and UT with a passion. He does however have a very twisted way of thinking on some subjects.

Longshore himself said he was NOT a Bama grad he stated he "attended" Alabama. He pontificated how he was impressed by how much class 'Barn fans exhibited by not showing up in droves to swoon over Tubs, my take was that mom and dad wouldn't let them have the tractor to drive that far.
He did sound high and mighty talking about that there's now way that there was 800 qualified credentialed press people there ( I could tell that he was not of the qualified types ) he said he was embarrassed by the number of Bama fans waiting on CNS.
He came across as a bombastic a** full of self importance ( or should that be impotence?).

If the SEC wants the fans gone they will close it to the public, but since they have not done that I see no reason to berate the Bama fans for doing what they always do which is support their team with passion.

I'm sure it would be no different if the SEC headquarters were in Knoxville

Yeah it would be different. Instead of Bama fans it would be hillbillies and Bubba and Lulu, who would make a mad dash for the buffet line, killing several sports reporters by trampling in the process. Hmmmm, maybe thats not such a bad idea.

Who ever said Longshore is full self importance is right. It hasn't always been that way, but in the last few years his arrogant, self absorbed ways have mushroomed. I do give credit where credit is due however...he does hate UT, and AU. Although he won't admit to the latter on his show.

Roll Tide

I dont think John Longshore is an idiot. His remarks were carefully planned to stir the pot. He probably hoped to create to controversy that will pump the ratings for his own show. Even now people on finebaum's show are calling for his head on a stick. And as of this writing there is a 3 page spread on Longshore's comments. So his comments have done just what he probably intended. Put him in the spotlight.

However....his comments were arrogant and low classed. They reflected as poorly on Alabama as the Bama fans who called in and told him to 'go to hell'. I had to shake my head when I heard that because I feel pretty sure that Longshore was giggling in delight behind the scenes.

He's not an idiot. But he does seem to be an (insert expletive here).

;)

I believe (after being interrogated by a caller) he said that he attended the University but did not graduate.

I'll confess to listening to Finebaum for its entertainment value and will usually keep the show running while I'm at work, but I had to completely turn it off yesterday. Longshore's arrogance was a little much to stomach. While I understand his reasoning for agitating the Alabama fans (he was just trying to make a splash for the afternoon), I could only take so much of his "holier than most of the media here" approach. He just couldn't understand why there needed to be 800 media credentials and it came across as though he felt like it should be limited to an exclusive group (including himself). The thing is, I don't think this was an act. I think he really takes himself that seriously. However, I had never heard of him before yesterday and based off of my one afternoon, I was very unimpressed.

Listening to some of the "talent" on the airwaves in this state makes me wonder if I gave up on the sports journalist dream a little too easily...

I don't think having a local radio show on an AM station would get him a media credential if there was only a limited number handed out.

Longshore says stuff like that just to stir the pot. He does love Bama and hates aub and UT. However, if he knows he is getting under someone's skin, it does not matter who you are, he will twist the dagger until the point of breaking. I don't listen to him and Barry anymore - their show got to be nothing more than talking about betting and betting lines.

Actually feel sorry for the guy. About four years ago his wife died tragically due to an aneurism (I think). He is now remarried, but for a time he really went through a tough time, especially since they had two small girls. I will agree that he does come across as extremely arrogant.

It is called SEC Media Days and NOT SEC Fan Days. I will have to agree with Mr. Longshore on this one point.

All due respect to a senior member..... but until they ban the public and state that media days are only for the media..... I say Roll Tide!!! and if someone wants to visit and garner a autograph..... Then so frigin be it!!!

Not to long after Fyffe went the same way . The girls aren't so little now . Believe they're like 13 & 11 . John is 100% Bama , he's just doing his job . As far as the betting lines it's really much less than 10-15 years back even though the "Phantom" is still at it . Would anyone want to know or , care to guess as to how the "Phantom" came to be ?
