Different Realities: Discrepancies in Sooner & Tide Fans Viewpoints

That's spot on. They want 2014 to really bother us - and it bothers the hell out of them that it doesn't bother us. Bama fans understand that game and just shrug. There's no doubt in my mind that they believe this game will duplicate that one...

I think the only thing that only bothers me about that game is that we got another “Too much Bama” ( AKA too much alcohol and less common sense) fan celebrity out of it. But i, and just about every Bama fan could think of about 30 more losses that bothers us more than that one and give sound reasoning for why.

But the thing that is lost in it is that everyone forgets Utah beat us in the Sugar Bowl as well. That is probably a worse loss since it was a BCS buster, it made us 0-2 in BCS games, and it had been 15 years since we had been to NOLA. But no one challenges the fact that we had an emotional hangover going into game vs a highly motivated team in that game.

Just a little further insight into their view of that game—They don’t buy the “our guys didn’t want to be there” excuse because we drove down on our initial drive in that game and scored a td. Hence, they feel like they took our best effort and still prevailed. Shortsighted IMO, but TIFWIW

Every loss bothers me. Every single one. But some are far worse than others. This one barely registers any more. It was what it was. I could give two hoots about what anyone else believes, but I hope their whole team believes something from that game five years ago will carry over into this one even though it won't.

The ironic thing is that they lost to Boise in a game that they gave every excuse in the book for. “ we had a noname qb, AP wasn’t 100%, BSU got lucky, we weren’t into it because we screwed by the refs in Oregon that kept us out of a NCG, etc”. But yet they hate when we say “whatever it was a meaningless bowl game”.

2003 Tennessee 2008 Florida, and 1994 Florida are two of the worst behind the expected ones ( Clemson, Auburn 13, and LSU 11).

At the time 2006 Tennessee and 2006 Arkansas were up there but the consequences for those 2 helped me to forget them.

The Ohio st game I was at, and surrounded by buckeyes. That loss doesn’t rank in my top 10 even though it’s one of the two games I’ve attended that we lost because I saw it coming.

Need 2000 Central Florida and 2003 Northern Illinois in there somewhere.

Oh, I know. I've read that BS, that because our guys celebrated the first TD, that's proof positive that our guys really wanted to be there... :D

Didn't see NIU game, celebrated losing to UCF because it was the final nail in Dubious' coffin.

I was happy about that one.
He was so OTL that he had the entire team drug-tested, coming back from the ARK game, because he was convinced that had to be the answer. At the same time, his assistants were wandering around the practice field during practice, glued to their cell phones, making their own deals, instead of coaching. There's "stupid," and there's monumentally, incurably "stupid"...

the 2013 auburn/UGA game bothers me more than the 2013 Iron Bowl ever did.

This is pretty much the position across their boards, also. They don't really believe in Bama's offense or defense and they think the line is, well, out of line. They seem to vary from the slightly worried to the "not worried at all." Your decision not to discuss with them is a good one. Just raise your blood pressure...

Gotta tell ya though, looking in the mirror, I would have the same attitude standing in their position. That is why I enjoy the Sooner fans. They really are very similar to us as far as fans go.

Yes. If UGA just knocks the ball down that stinking kick doesn't matter. auburn might have even come into the game depressed and not nearly as fired up.

OK. I sort of see your point but I have never felt more pain during a Bama game than that particular game/play so I absolutely can not say that game bothers me more.

Yeah. I know its been pointed out elsewhere but the issue is not during the game, it is the practices leading up to the game. Most players will be focused and play hard during the game but their performance will lag if they aren't focused and playing hard in preparation for the game. Also, there have been cases of players partying a little too much before games; don't know about the Sugar Bowl game one way or the other.

The 2010 Auburn game hurts more than the '13 game. I've never seen such a reversal of fortune in an IB like that. Totally beat their butt in the first half and then when Mark Ingram is running toward another score they knock the ball out of his hands and it literally rolls about 30 yards straight down the sideline for a touch back (and footballs don't roll in straight lines). We score there and I don't think they could get themselves back up off the mat.

I can't stand they won the NC and especially so with sCam Newton. I'll stop short of saying I hate him cause my momma taught me better but I strongly dislike him and how he acted at the end of that game.

Here's the thing about that Sugar Bowl - it's an afterthought to most Bama fans. It's not so much that we'd rather forget about it as that it was forgettable in every way, being sandwiched between two losses that hurt far more.
I can't honestly say that game didn't bother me at all. But hopefully we won't have a repeat of that performance. For one thing, that was before CNS adjusted the defensive makeup to better handle teams like OU (i.e., smaller, faster safeties, quicker off the edge, etc.).

To your 1st paragraph: I have accounts on different sites so I do occasionally post on other sites. But this is by far my primary site. I would say about 80% of this board does not have an account on other sites, and about half of that 80% don’t even lurk on those sites.

It’s mostly due to the nature of most sites that many find uncomfortable. They can’t take the amount of smack that many boards encourage or allow. And some just get their feelings hurt after they create a novel of a post that is just smacked around by sarcasm and obnoxious banter. That along with the “We are going to blow you away because you kissed your cousins you dumb idiot gump” kinda remarks that are allowed on many sites.

Point is most here don’t like other sites due to the very loose rules on them and the lack of moderation. To say the least, most don’t want wrestling banter attached to observations.

Paragraph 2: I believe there can be some truth the fact that there are high powered offenses skewing the numbers, but I still find it hard to give this full credit when Kansas scored 40 on Oklahoma and Army took them to overtime.

I read the texags board (I'm not a member). One thing I found shocking less than a week ago: a guy on their made a well reasoned detailed post about a subject dealing with football. (Sort of like Selma but a little shorter). He was insulted by almost every poster for like 5 pages and basically told not to make long posts. I was wandering why have a football discussion board if lengthy intelligent discussion is discouraged.

I’ve also never seen a stranger fumble. The Auburn defender came from the opposite side of the ball, not only caught Mark, but knocked it out of a normally sure-handed Mark’s arm. I’ll never understand how it disn’t Just roll out of bounds.

But, two other strange things occurred in that game that bug me. Trent Richardson dropped an easy-peasy wide open TD at their goal line, which caused us to settle for a field goal. And, our All American safety pulled a pec muscle and couldn’t raise his arm to knock down a TD pass that he was in perfect position to prevent. The gods just were not with us that game.
