A nice throwback or a genuine school jersey is nice to wear at a Sports Bar. Sometimes at work, we have team jersey day to raise money for charity you pay 5.00 to wear your favorite jersey. I have signed Namath, Stabler and Shaun jerseys. My Bama ones go over well up here in Buckeye country.

I see that some voted "yes" but no one is speaking up about why.. :conf3:

I don't think it's childish to wear a jersey at all. I bought a #4 jersey on that terrible day in 2005 and wore it with pride for every Bama game from that day forward. I got a #8 jersey for my birthday in 2008 and now that is my game day jersey.

Wearing a jersey or a Bama polo shirt is just another way to show support for your team, and there's nothing wrong with that.

I feel you on #4. I broke my leg in a compound fracture when I was a kid. Brought high school to a screeching halt for me. It made me hurt for Pro all the more. I wear my #4 on VERY special occasions (i.e., I wore it for the LSU game last year since it was a big gameday AND my son's brithday). Otherwise, it hangs in my closet in a special place, and I get a little tinge every time I see it.

Pro will always be one of my favorite players, and I can't help but wonder where we'd be if that day had turned out a little differently for him...

To each his own, but I take a certain sense of pride in the fact that many fans in the SEC, ACC and even Big 12 (the Texas one), dress like ladies and gentleman on Saturdays.

Flame away.

Won't get a flame from me for a Bama girl dressing like a lady to a game.

Just my personal opinion but for WOMEN my answer is SEXY, assuming that's all she has on!

Actually I'm in the to each his own crowd but I wouldn't wear one! I own a Namath Jersey and a Stabler Jersey but I wouldn't wear one on game day.

It is my personal opinion that Jersey's are great for kids to wear to games and again Ladies whenever she wants to... just something about a lady in a jersey that does it for me (it's like a lady wearing a button down shirt of mine (again with nothing else)!
word for word, brother. Women in those kid jersies just crank my engine!

I think it's childish, but sports are games, so why not be childish and wear a jersey? I don't personally, but do your thing, man. It's just football.

Although I don't want to go back to coats and ties in the August/September heat, I agree with this statement. However, if you are grown and you must wear a jersey, (i) make it an actual jersey, not one of those horrid knockoffs from Wal-Mart that's not even the right color, and (ii) don't put "Booger" or "Big Greasy" or whatever your pet name is on the back. That starts toward the silly side IMHO.

Of course, I'm sure there are lots of people who laugh at those of us who wear khakis and polo shirts or button down shirts and think we are going to church, so there are definitely two sides here.

I thought we stopped worrying about this kind of stuff in the 60s. I remember lawyers wearing jeans and tie-die shirts.
Whatever you wear should be clean and comfortable, there are no other parameters as far as I'm concerned.

The wording of the question makes it hard to vote "yes" without seeming snobbish, and I think it skews the results accordingly. I do think it looks foolish for a 40- or 50-year-old to attempt to dress like they are still in their teens or twenties. Around your own house or at the neighbor's barbeque pretty much anything that isn't obscene is O.K., but in public I believe that people look better when they dress better. JMHO.

I got a #29 Dennis Riddle jersey for Christmas when I was a kid, I was 12.
This statement makes me feel old.

I never even realized that anyone considered it childish until I read this thread. I never actually owned a jersey myself. I always thought that it wouldn't look good on me. But when I was in LA for the game, I came across a sports store near Universal Studios selling what I thought was a half price Julio jersey. I tried it on, and I liked it a lot. But it turned out that only jerseys with the BCS Championship patch were half price, and they were out of those. So I will get one eventually.

Well dangit, I'm 56 and to prevent me from being childish, I'll just have to get rid of the jersey's I have! Nope, sorry, I think they are more comfortable so I wear them. Not necessarily out somewhere but mostly around the house, friends, etc. I'll bet there are a few thousand military personnel who don't think it's childish, we seen the photo's from fellow Tidefans in Iraq.

No. I've actually never thought anything about it. I'm going to get one of the Nike lady style jersey someday.
