Does Finebaum affect decisions at UA ?

I am picking up on some posts already here. My question is how much does this guy affect the powers that be?

If he has any effect, then that is scary. This guy thrives off of coaching hot seats, unrealistic expectations, and controversy. He and his idiotic callers forget about probation, depth, injuries, etc. and expect Alabama to be championship caliber despite the circumstances.

Please assure me that this nimrod does not effect the majority of the fan base or decision makers. The LAST thing Alabama needs is a coaching change any time in the future. We need to keep Shula for years to come for stability. The answer is not always to fire, fire, fire.

Well, unfortunately many of the BAMA faithful listen to that rat and take his bait everytime. I pray to all things holy that at least the powers-that-be at UA are smart enough NOT to listen to him, since obviously too many people in the state are not.

That Rat is pretty much a good gauge on a program. I think he is pretty fair at times. His job is to point out the flaws. He would be a nobody if he just said how wonderful everything happens to be. Let's not forget, CMS hasn't won a big game yet and we very well should be 3-0 against UT.

I hope most fans take the show as simply an entertainment venue with Paul being the ringmaster of several idiot callers. He gets what he wants, people love to hate him and his remarks. I love to laugh at him and all the silly callers. He sometimes has good information and I enjoy the guests like Oliver, Sheridan, Dye, and Donnan and others, they bring good discussion.

The only thing Paul controls is what Shane and Phyllis will do next, they are his puppets and I think they are funny and leave it at that. He wants to get under your skin and stir the pot that's what people love to hate and apparently it works because he's still on air. It's just another source of entertainment that's all......

If the powers that be actually listened to him....

Jim Donnan would probably be the coach at Bama right now, 'cause he was pushing him along with Sheridan (just not quite as much). Now having Donnan as a HC is a scary thought, almost as much as people mentioning Neuheisal. We would just as well voluntarily take the DP, because you could be sure the NCAA WOULD be back.

The day that anyone in the UA administration actually pays attention to what PF thinks, is the day I turn in my Tide Pride tickets.

#1 - The "powers that be" don't listen to him or that TYPE of thing. And even if they were presented with his comments, etc - they'd shrug them off - they are "onto" his type.

#2 - The "powers that be" would NEVER base any decision on a talk-show sports host or a sports writer.

#3 - Most stable-minded Alabamians know about Paul Fianebaum and don't "fall" for his attempt to cause trouble, stir the pot, all the while trying to make himself look "righteous" in his transparent attempts. He passes all this off as his was of "making money" & the ratings, etc - well, most don't buy into that either . True - he makes money that way - but the "high" he REALLY gets is from making people fall for his attempts to cause trouble. PERIOD. He is an athelete wanna-be who never "made it" & he spends his time trying to discredit anyone he is jealous of in that vein. PERIOD.

[Finebaum Listeners]...forget about probation, depth, injuries, etc. and expect Alabama to be championship caliber despite the circumstances.

Let's not forget, CMS hasn't won a big game yet and we very well should be 3-0 against UT.

I just found it ironic that the thread starts off with the first quote and is responded to with the second.

Is this an example of case and point?

Finebaum's entire program is about creating or fueling coaching controversies in the SEC. Just listen to the intro and it becomes clear--"where most football coaches are fired".
Without that issue, he has no program.

Maybe because I work in the media.... but, they do listen to his show at Bama. I am friends with a coach of a men's team at Bama, he listens. Mal listens. Everyone listens. To say you don't is foolish. You wouldn't of responded or read this thread if he didn't command power. Sure Finebaum is wrong at times but, a large part of the time he's right. Let's be honest 10 years from now when Shula has gotten his feet under him we will refer from 1997-2003 as the "Dark Ages" of Bama football.

As for me saying CMS hasn't had a big win, point to me his big win. We have more talent than MSU. I still really wouldn't classify beating this UF team a "Big Win." So both Croom, Shula and Brooks (UK) have no real wins as of yet. I am impressed with Croom being able to rebound from Maine and he will have a good shot at 4 win season.

He has no say or influence on the powers in Tuscaloosa. Is he a Bama fan - Yes. Is he intolerant to bad decisions - Yes. To his defense, he has defended Coach Shula this season and still reminds his callers that the season is not over and that there is still opportunity for a good record.

Your kidding ........Right?

There is no way in hades that Paul Finebaum affects the way decisions reguarding coaches are made at the University of Alabama or any other school for that matter. He thrives on pure yellow dog journalism, which is to say he who barks the loudest get's the most attention, but that's all he gets is attention, which of course is what he wants, makes his ratings higher in radio market and there by allows him to charge more for commercials aired during his broadcast. I think from time to time he has interesting guest, I like Pat Dye, Bill Oliver, Andrew Zow and the other former coaches and players, they make in-sightful comments about college football in this state. His main purpose is to stir the pot. IMHO

He has no AFFECT (not effect) on the powers that be. If you do not like him DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM, DO NOT DISCUSS HIM

Actually, "affect" is a verb and "effect" is usually used as a noun.

So, one might "affect" something. That would mean that their action caused an "effect".

Excuse me while I stop laughing. If I had to guess if the powers that be are affected in any way by Finebaum I would say that it would most likely be annoyance from reading his critical commentary in his sports column or listening to his radio program.
