This is what I call committing an act of journalism.
Get the facts wrong, Write the story wrong. Never admit you were wrong.
Journalism.

One would THINK he might have tipped himself off when he realized an LSU team that just lost and scored only 3 points at home, failed to drop from No. 4. Instead, he ran with the fact they remained in the No. 4 slot.

If we could all be as sloppy at our jobs, heh? :frown:

If I can get the results of the AP and Coaches polls correct while driving home from my Memphis hotel on Sunday, why can't an "expert" do the same thing. How does he get paid to do this job again?

Yikes... Surprised it hasn't been taken down.
This would set up well for a "FAIL" image.
Surprised it didn't start out, "Despite Alabama's victory over Ole Miss, Alabama remains 5-0."

sad and pitiful.

where did they dig this guy up from, and how in the world does he still have this job? didn't realize how much i would miss Ian. how can any sane person who knows anything about football look at that poll and think it's updated? I looked at it yesterday around noon and IMMEDIATELY knew, LSU is still 4 - well that poll is not updated yet.

what a moron.

Just be glad there's jobs out there for the incompetent. Imagine if he were a paramedic, engineer, pilot, or some other job that lives depended on.

That is incredibly stupid. I don't see how the B'Ham News can justify keeping such a DA on their payroll. How could they possibly excuse such a monumental mistake? :conf2:

The guy already is pretty much reviled by the largest fan base in the state, which BTW is the fan base of the team he's the beat reporter for. :conf3:

Incidently, his editor should probably be canned too. 1) For hiring him in the 1st place and 2) For not catching this gigantic gaffe.

Kausler was the beat writer for UA in the 70's. He was one of the first writers to question and openly criticize Coach Bryant, and was highly disliked by most Alabama fans at that time. I believe that Finebaum has said that much of his own writing style was influenced by Kausler's approach to journalism at that time. He left the News to become, what I think was, the sports editor for another paper...but I'm not sure which one. Now he's back as a beat writer again. Not sure if he was fired or the paper went under, but with errors as inexcusible as this, that may be our first clue.

He was sports editor of the Post-Herald for quite a while, and then he worked at a paper in South Carolina. His kids are all grown at this point, and I'm guessing that's what caused the move back to Alabama.
