Y'all have been kind enough to allow me on your board for the last few weeks, and I just got home from the Duke-Alabama game. I wanted to post a few thoughts, for you to either read or ignore as you deem fit.

1. The Alabama fans were flat out fantastic. I think I speak for about every Duke fan I know when I say that the fans at the game were very pleasant, friendly, and top-shelf in every respect. From those I met at the hotel (Millenium), to those on campus, to those at the tailgates (banjeaux, for example), to those at and after the game -- high quality folks.

2. Alabama simply imposed its will on both sides of the ball. Several Tide fans mentioned some concern with your defense in the game, which I am taking with a bit of a grain of salt because there were only a few possessions that we were able to move the ball down the field.

3. Wow, what a pair of running backs you guys have. Other than the fact that they were shredding my team, they were fun to watch. I think Richardson's scarier than Ingram, but I haven't looked at stats and was watching without the benefit of replay. But wow, what a tandem.

4. As I said before the game, it is an honor to have a team of your caliber come up to play in our house. I recognize that it was not your dream trip, and is just a warm-up on your way to Arkansas and beyond. But even though it was a pretty lopsided affair, it means a lot to us to have the opportunity to play the best on our own field.

5. Let's get a home-and-away for basketball, okay?

Congrats, and good luck going forward -- OPK

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm sure Coach K would return the bloodletting to us in roundball. I like what I've seen out of Coach Grant so far, but we're a year away.

I've gotta ask, does Banjeaux talk in bold also? :D

Thanks for the gracious remarks.

We wish Coach Cut and the team well for the rest of the year.

Give us a couple of more years to let Coach Grant work his ju ju on the roundball team before scheduling you guys. We're not quite there yet....

RTR and Go Blue Devils

I would love for that to happen.

Thanks for the gracious remarks. We are very proud of how most of our fans conduct themselves, both at home and at away games. Every fanbase has its jerks, but we generally try to compensate for any of the bad seeds by an outpouring of hospitality and kindness shown to our opponents. As you saw, we travel well and can set up housekeeping just about anywhere, and we love to talk football! :biggrin2:

I'd LOVE it if we could meet on a semi-regular basis for basketball. I thoroughly enjoyed Duke basketball when I was stationed at Camp Lejeune. I can always appreciate passionate fans!

Savannah, I was on a shuttle back from the game with two sweet Alabama grandma's. Both had "A"'s painted on their cheeks. They struggled to find something kind to say, and I was just waiting for the "bless their little hearts" to come out. Very gracious group, everyone we met. The fans even applauded the four members of the 1945 Rose Bowl team that beat Alabama, when they were honored during the first half. Let alone a good round of applause for the Wallace Wade presentation, and Coach K's Team USA presentation near halftime.

Thanks! -- OPK

Also thanks to 1Fit to be Tide -- I would respond to each, but don't want to get thwacked with some multiple post deletions if your mods do that.

(And thanks to the mods for letting me on -- hope to check in as y'all Roll towards January).

The only thing my wife and I agree on when it comes to sports is we love Duke Basketball and Coach K. I would love to see a home and home with you anytime. Cameron must be a special place to play and watch a b-ball game. I hope to see a Duke game there one day Lord willing. If we ever played in b-ball, I would pull for Bama first obviously but if the Blue Devils won, I would not be disappointed. Coach Grant will have us where we need to be in a year or 2.

The Duke fans I came into contact with were all very pleasant and very helpful in showing us around their campus, which by the way was beautiful IMHO (especially the architecture of the buildings). It was a very enjoyable trip for this Bama fan. :)

Coach K was interviewed on TV during the game. He had kind things too say about Alabama. He also said that if Duke were going to bring up their football program, it was important too bring teams like Bama too Duke too play games. Duke is going too be hard pressed too put a great football team on the field. That is a small school student population wise. They play a lot of what I call east coast sports, I.E. soccer, lacrosse, etc., basketball and baseball. They are going to be hard pressed to draw the best football players too Duke. I think that school will always be looked at as a basketball school, like North Carolina and Kentucky and Kansas.

Thanks. We thought the Duke fans were the nicest, friendliest, and good natured fans we had ever been around. Also, the campus is very beautiful.

WE had a blast in Durham this weekend. Everyone we talked to were great. The next time anyone goes, be sure to go to Watts Grocery for dinner, good local place for fantastic food and service!!

The aerial shots of Duke's campus were very impressive. That appears to be one of the most attractive campuses anywhere from what I could see. the Cathedral was beautiful.
