Game Thread: Early bowl games no one cares about but will watch anyway catchall

Advertising is about creating awareness and building a brand. I engaged H&R Block and TurboTax last year, and both of them failed me egregiously. I will probably be hiring a CPA for 2023 taxes, but if TaxSlayer is something I think of when considering DIY alternatives, then yes, I could be easily using TaxSlayer in part because they sponsored a meaningless bowl game. I have used H&R Block for 20 years but no more.

That comment wasn't meant to be an endorsement for any tax service. I personally have used Turbo Tax for maybe 15-20 years with no issues......the comment was directed toward no one selecting a tax service based on bowl game sponsorship..... & yes....we all probably understand the concept of advertising. IMO, there are more effective ways to market your product than a meaningless bowl sponsorship..

Lots of unwatchable football lately.
All the opt outs is like going to see your favorite band and the only member you know there is the bass player. All others have been replaced by people you don’t know, aren’t overly good, and butchering your favorite songs.

I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2013, and the only "original" member by that point was Gary Rossington. Yeah, they were pretty good, but can you "really" have Skynyrd without Ronnie?

I remember Ed King saying that it was now nothing but a tribute band, and I have to admit he was right.

So Maryland beats the Barn - Hugh Pimp Daddy hires Kelly so the world knows it’s all about beating Bama, other games are meaningless.
Georgia would beat FSU WITH TJ and all of the opt-outs/portal jumpers by 14 points. At least.

Not to be "that" guy, but the whole concept of lights and darks (uniform-wise) is to prevent confusion to players.

And you're just not going to mix up black and that bright red color.

I think it goes all the way back to black &white televisions and making it easier to tell the teams apart. It just sort of turned into tradition after color sets became the norm...🤔

Edit: Just saw CA's post.👍

So Alan Collins was gone by then? 🤔

Yeah, I saw them in 2013, and Allen died in 1990.
Leon Wilkerson was also gone by then.
Billy Powell, too.

When they ended the concert with "Freebird," they played their names on the overhead video as a tribute (including Duane Allman, for whom that song was written of course)

It's also to hep the officials believe it or not. When trying to track players during a play having similar colored jerseys makes that very difficult. I've had to work middle school all-star games where one team has navy blue jerseys and the other has black jerseys. Since we have look very closely at match-ups we go from match-up to match-up multiple times during a play and as we adjust it's not easy to determine offense/defense if their jerseys are similar colors. There could be broadcast or stats reasons too, but I know the officials are one big considerations. Teams can get approvals in advance to both wear their dark jerseys and they are usually approved if they are different enough.
