My cousin from the west coast married Tom Fogerty of CCR in 1980. He [played rythm guitar in CCR.
In 1982 we began having family reunions on the lakes west of Austin.
Tom and Trish, my cousin came. It was like I had known Tom my whole life, wonderful guy. Played a bunch of CCR tunes for us and we would get a couple beers in us and have some wonderful sing alongs. He was a big guy but in good shape for his size. He ran me all over a tennis court.
While visiting my Uncle in Corpus one weekend later on, Tom and Trish happened to be visiting. The doorbell rang at an early hour on Sunday morning. I was the only one who awoke and a Fedex driver had me sign for envelope addressed to Tom. It was his royalty check from Fantasy Records, Every week, no where he was Fedex delivered his check. No, I never asked how much.

Sadly Tom died in 1990. At his funeral in Scottsdale I met his more famous big brother John (the pipes) Fogerty, nice enough guy but not near as warm as Tom.

That's class. Props to Jamie for not making your idiot friend feel like an idiot in public. He probably figured he had enough problems as it was.
Pretty much ever since I heard the story I have respected Jamie Fox. He could have called him out and didn't. He could have done stand-up and related the story or told it on some talk show and never has. I on the other hand mention it at least once a year to my friend. If I ever get the chance to meet Jamie Fox, I will bring it up.

Coach Bryant at a golf tournament...nicest and most humble celebrity I have met. He was everything and more that people who knew him said he was.

Michael Jordan - while he was warming up for a game at the Omni...nice and considerate even though some woman was yelling at him while we were trying to talk to him.

Ted Turner - rudest most pompous idiot.

Ken Stabler - life of the party. Signed every autograph without complaining...many people around.

the only people I have met that are even remotely famous would be architects, John Portman and Richard Meier. John Portman designed a whole bunch of high rise buildings in downtown Atlanta. He is a huge jerk and most people who have met him don't like him. Richard Meier designed The High Museum in Atlanta and the Getty Center in LA. He is nice and really super smart. A bit of an ego though but was super nice even after overhearing me refer to his designs as bathroom tile.

The closest I've come is Tom Foreman a CNN anchor/reporter. He is a nice guy. I went to high school with him so it probably isn't a true reflection. I'm not the type to be forward with celebrities. I just don't want to bother people.

Keith Jackson; nice enough but didn't want to be bothered. Tom Cruise; surprising very polite. Russel Crowe; seemed a bit shy. Richard Simmons (yeah, I know); exactly like his character. Willie from Duck Dynasty; what you see is what you get.
I guess I could add:
Dikembe Mutombo (in security line at Atlanta airport); nice, pleasant, and huge. I think his shoes were longer than my arms.
C.J. Mosley (on a flight out of B'ham a few months ago); very nice and courteous. I swear I seemed to be the only person on the flight that recognized him.....strange!

I love Portman's work though, most of the iconic buildings in Atlanta are his

I should add that I met Shug Jordan during a visit to the Auburn athletic center in about 1969. my father and I were going down the hall and passed his office. The door was open and you could see him sitting at his desk. We went back and walked right. My father told him we just wanted to meet him and he the perfect gentleman. We shook hands, exchanged pleasantries, then went on our way.

I am not a fan of his work. He did a classroom building on the campus of Southern Poly. The architect students referred to it as the ugliest building on campus, everyone else called it the atrium building.

I'm not familiar with the Southern Poly building but this is art I can't walk through the Marquis without stopping and just taking it in, no matter how many times i've been though it.

Rick Mahorn from the Detroit Pistons. I'll never forget him riding in the Ford Taurus. He is a big human being. Picked him up at an airport in Fla and took him over to a fundraising event at a golf course in the Melbourne/Palm Bay area. I took his golf bag to the cart for him and was walking off to leave him alone and he talked me in to driving him around the course. That's the day I almost took out an NBA player with a golf ball. Rick Mahorn talked to me and joked around with me like we grew up together. He was an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks at the time.
Fred "Curley" Neal. You talk about funny. We had each other rolling all weekend long at a charity basketball event. His wife was a very nice lady as well.
Reggie Jackson - mid-70's when the Yankees would play Alabama in a spring game every year. A major pompous jerk. He was the ONLY one who would not sign autographs after the games.

Pro athletes reminds me of a charity golf event in Davie, FL when Joe Green was a coach for the Miami Dolphins. There were a bunch of Dolphins players and coaches out there that day but I remember Mean Joe as one of the warmest gentlemen I met that day. That event was at the course where "Caddyshack" was filmed. Also met and spent a few minutes on a golf course with Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson. This was when he was working with and trying to help John Daly stay on track with his personal demons. He introduced himself to me as Thomas Henderson and I said "You're Hollywood Henderson?" He chuckled and said "Yeah but I don't go by 'Hollywood' any more." He was very humble.

I flew beside John Astin (Gomez Adams) on a flight to L.A., met Florence Henderson, Larry Holmes, and shot a commercial where Mike Ditka was spokesperson for Casino Magic in Bay St. Louis, Ms..
All were very nice except Ditka who was a complete jerk.
Football wise I met Namath and got his autograph, and I played blackjack beside Snake at the Isle of Capri Casino in Biloxi.
He was as friendly as he could be and a very nice person. Namath was very friendly as well.

I met B.B. King in Tuscaloosa about 15 years ago. He was totally gracious and very kind. We lost a good one when he passed away.
