Anyone know what the highest view and postcount on a thread is? This one is knocking 600 posts and 20,000 views.

For a non "Official Game Thread" , I can't remember one any higher. That humorous hat thread kind of took off. (Please don't retrieve it anyone :)).

You can sort the threads by pageviews or replies by simply clicking on each header...

Currently the 'Bama hat' thread KILLS this one, though I suspect that's due to a handful of folks who keep hitting it over and over again...

So hat fetish trumps internet user rights and tidefans protectionism?

Maybe a few more days will fix that, this thread is only a couple of days old and the 24 hour rule was not applied to the hat thread either.

Metadata tags in .Mp3's are called ID3 and has information such as the title, artist, album and bit rate. Most people don't know the term ID3, but know those tags are there because many music players use them when the file is playing.
A little off the subject, but that's not the only data in MP3's. When you buy songs online your account info gets embedded in the file. So never share a music file you've purchased on itunes even if it is the DRM-less file. It can definitely be traced back to you.

That's what tunebite is for. ;)

I'm pretty sure that even if you remove the drm that info is still there. Even the mp3's you download without DRM has your account info. Just open the file with notepad and you should be able to tell.

If you strip it, yes. Tunebite doesn't strip the files of the drm, it "plays" the files and re-records it into a new, DRM free mp3, aac, or other file type. Word of warning, though - while this hasn't been specifically addressed, you should only attempt to remove DRM on music you OWN, if even then.

It's funny, but the music industry seems to be terrified of digital music - they see it as a necessary evil as opposed to a useful tool. That, in conjunction with the application of copyright laws moving from whether or not the copyright owner loses money to whether or not the copyright owner could lose money, makes messing with copyright protection on any type of digital media dicey at best.

While a particular action may not be addressed in the copyright laws themselves, and in practice not violate copyright or falls under fair-use doctrines, that doesn't mean you can't get sued over it.

Hey, hey, HEY! You guys have gotten way off topic. We need to get back to what's really important here.

Hating Alex.

:biggrin2:

I'm kidding. I really wish no ill will on the kid. He screwed up, handled it poorly, showed no remorse and... where was I? Oh yeah, we gave him hell about it and we'll move on.

One other thing. Thanks to our benevolent dictators for allowing us the restrained freedom to vent. It was certainly helpful from my perspective.

There's never a checkmate on the internet.

One more post Johnny!

I pride myself that at this point, I can download any stream I come across and can turn any audio or video file into any other popular codec or file type. For a long time real's .rm files were difficult but I have that covered. And as pointed out, the solution to any traceable audio file is to play it, set your sound recorder to "what your computer hears" and you can just re-record an exact copy.

Maybe they will come up with a way to put a low volume key in the song to where you can strip away other frequencies, increase it's volume
to make it audible for the judge. But putting a written tag can be easily defeated re-recording as mentioned.

The RIAA has ruined many a good P2P network, like "fastrack" the greatest of all, with junk files of the same name. Programs like Emule hash the files to check them for authenticity. Never a checkmate, always check after check.

The whole issue is, if these three conglomerates that own the media in this country weren't so draconian, greedy, uncompromising, unimaginative, a majority of the population wouldn't totally disregard their laws.

There is a huge segment of the population that prides itself as straight and narrow, pride's themselves on their law abiding ways and clean driving record, great marriage and good kids, that download MP3's of records that you can't find anymore but are copywritten none the less. Especially old BeBop Jazz and people like Bill Evans. Their wives also download clip art and send copywritten pictures to all their friends. That this is happening, tells me the system is broken.

Who is the person we need to start a campaign to get fired. Please get the name or names of the person responsible for this and we will dog them by making signs at games and any other form of ridicule we can think of.:BigA::BigA::BigA:

So if you copy a pic of the net and paste it somewhere else, you are guilty of copywrite infringement? Doesn't there have to be a warning of some sort? Doesn't free access and use of whats in the public domain come in to play here?

That's a horrible idea.
Of course Alex's best friend would think so. I do know that his boss received a link to the thread and that his boss read it. I do not know the nature of his response to Alex's representation of the University. I can't imagine he's pleased. And another interesting update: one of the posters in this thread--the same one who sent the link to Alex's boss--took screen shots of Alex's comments just in case he went back and edited them later. Seems some are out for blood. I'm not sure if the boss has been sent the screen shots...

I also agree that it's a horrible idea. That is not our place and this is not an offense so bad as to attempt to impact a man's livelihood. We're talking about posting copyrighted photos, not offering to be a secret witness.

I say we've had our fun. It's time to focus our hatred on more appropriate things:
