I still think a year or two under Saban running an “Alabama” offense would have done wonders for Grubbs offensive philosophy. Designing plays and having them picked apart by one of the greatest defensive minds of our time does wonders for development. He should have taken the job under Nick’s conditions. c'est la vie,

Super agree.

I watched a lot of their Offense at Washington and thought he was a guy about to be one of the Best OC’s in CFB.

Now though it might have been that you could get away with reckless play calling in the PAC-12 and especially with Penix at QB.

Grubb is going to have to improve greatly for our Offense to be more consistent.

I’d prefer to ditch the trick gadget plays completely until he has a much much better feel on when it’s appropriate in the SEC.

That is an interesting quote. I wonder what he meant by it? I also wonder if during the offseason he sat down, watched film and critiqued himself and his playcalling? Any coach worth their salt should do this.

Yeah, I think he made a mistake not taking the offer to come coach under Saban. It would have done him a world of good to learn things about offense that obviously he hasn't learned up to this point. I know even Lane Kiffin said that though Saban brought him in to open up the offense, he learned so much under Saban about offense. CRG missed two big opportunities for growth.

Hard to really tell what he meant but the quote was interesting. My take is that one does not know what it is like to be at Alabama until you are here which is true as a player and coach. He has a lot of coaching experience but nothing prepares you for the Tuscaloosa experience at the football complex. I think he learned that he is either going to improve himself and work harder or be out of a job....that is what he meant by knowing the "expectations."

I get the feeling that it is probably an adjustment. Seems to me music is a distraction from the task at hand and we certainly do not need gimmicks to attract talent. Coach knows how to win which means he knows how to adjust. I think he knows as we all do that it is time to get down to business and at Alabama that is smash mouth football.

One of Grubb's best/promising quotes is the one about working with the new OL coach to design running plays and not to be "an inch deep and miles wide." I took that to mean maybe they are paring down the plays and finding the exact ones we can do well and then using them to pound people when we need to. That sounds like some self-scouting along with a new coach's insight!!!

CKD and CRG want to run on the edges with lots of counters and pulls. We did not have the OL who could get out quick enough into space to work. We could not run in the interior because our Center was way too light to stone the initial block and our tackles and RBs were not effective in sealing the back side tackles from behind.

The coaching was sub par last year too such that we could nothing well, effectively.

Seems to be an intelligent group of coaches from what we are seeing and hearing. They made the personnel changes on the field and staff. They are saying the things out loud that we have been harping on forever. Now it is just about the execution in games.
