In the middle of Hog Country
I don't know about the rest of you but I get down right depressed every time I turn on the news lately. I have banned the watching of news in my house for a month. I know times are tough but I think the media just makes it worst. If anyone has had anything good happen to them lately, please post it. I sure could use a little good news today.

My good news: I am refinancing my home with a 4.5% fixed interest rate. WhooHooo.

Now is a good time to refinace!

I watch local news, but none of the national broadcasts.

We just refinanced, too.

I got married in October of 2007. We built a house in June of 2007. We had a daughter in October of 2008. We're both employed in a time where a lot of people can't say that. We recently found a great church to place membership in. Times get lean at times, but no worse than they do for anyone else. In the grand scheme of things, we're blessed!

I'm a father of 5 week old twin girls.

My IRA, which I just rolled over from my 401k December 23rd, is up 15% and still sitting with 30% cash.

I refinanced to a 4.5% fixed in 2004, I'm paid off in 9 years.

I'm better looking today than yesterday and much smarter as well.

--I have a great job that I love

--mrs. exiled does too

--my duties on our church's pastor search committee ended last summer with the hiring of an incredible preacher, who's all of 30 years old. (ours is a very large church that would normally hire an older guy...this guy we hired is awesome and is very popular)

--once jr. started pharmacy school, his tuition went up around 60%. Various scholarship things happened such that the out-of-pocket costs remained about what they were. That was an amazing experience!

--my alma mater's football team went 12-2 this season, when I had predicted them to go about 8-5

--Auburn imploded this year, fired a good coach, & replaced him with an ijit

--I found a great Deep Purple Greatest Hits collection that includes one of my fave DP songs ("Gettin' Tighter"...Tommy Bolin vintage) @ Best Buy for $5.99 :) (one of the great things about getting old is one's music can usually be found in the cheapie section...)

--in just a couple of weeks, my country's presidency will change hands without tanks rolling in the streets, executions, reprisals against ethnic groups or anything like that. What's more, the outoing president will join the other 3 living former presidents living in peaceful retirement.

Wow! I was already feeling pretty good about this day...Now I'm much better! ;)

although she is the typical crunchy granola type of yoga teacher, she is cute enough to just possibly be worth it.

My wife and I are having our first child in August and we are both employed!

You are right...stay away from the news, nothing but bad stuff there.
