Firefox browser-help

Well, IE8 has almost caught up to Firefox. :D To be serious, IE is a lot safer than it was in the past and security is the main reason I switched to Firefox a long time ago. At the time, you could do a lot more with Firefox than IE, tabbed browsing and the like. The last test I saw IE was even a little faster than FF. However, both Chrome and Safari were faster than either IE or FF. I tend to keep Chrome open, with the 5-6 site tabs I use the most - just to take advantage of the speed. But I also have Firefox open, usually with more tabs than in Chrome, when speed is not quite so important. Chrome is a little clunkier in handling bookmarks and the like than FF. I just don't see any good reason to use IE. Hope this helps some...

as HSV Says, there is almost no need to use IE anymore. Firefox is great, I have been using it and Opera, almost exclusively for years. Cool feature of Firefox is the extensions it offers. I use one called "IE Tabs" that allows you to open a page as a firefox tab but as an IE Browser. Great tool to use for those very few sites that still require IE. Works about 99% of the time. Unfortunately the .01% that it doesn't includes my corporate VPN Login and MS Sharepoint, so I keep IE but only for those.

FWIW I find Opera to be faster on a Vista Machine than Firefox.

I recently switched to Mozilla/Firefox and then added NoScript and Adblock. Takes some getting used to but I like it. Does anyone how I can change the google search to Bing on Firefox?

Click on the down arrow to the left of the search box. Click manage search engines, and follow the link to get more search engines. In the search window there, type in bing, mash enter and follow the directions.

Recently I lost audio on firefox. Sound works on Safari and IE8. Im not smart enough to figure out the problem. I tried deinstalling and reinstalling. I still use on firefox on sites without sound though.

Sound?

Do you mean sites that automatically begin playing a song or some other audio file when you visit?

That is most likely embedded content, and the problem is going to be with the flash player.

Adobe - Adobe Flash Player

It effects any sound. example youtube vids, news casts, online games.
sound works on other web browsers.

Ok, try this. Download the Flash uninstaller:

How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Run that, then exit Firefox. Restart Firefox, then go here and download a fresh copy of the Flash player:

Adobe - Adobe Flash Player

Linux and Mac users have had problems, too. It's definitely a Flash player problem and this should fix it.

If you also use IE, you will have to install a fresh copy of the ActiveX control for that browser.

I don't use IE, but about once a year, I run across a site that won't run on FF. That Active-X crap. The webmasters of those sites get hate mail from me.
