Everyone seems to be talking about how Alabama has to replace 3 offensive lineman. They fail to mention that Florida has to replace their left tackle and right tackle. On top of that, they are losing their top rusher, and top 2(maybe 3) recievers. Am I the only one that is not buying into the Florida hype?

Their entire defense returns 2 deep, they have one of those once a generation players in Tebow, and a coach that seems to have been on fire the past few years.

I am buying the hype but also trusting that Saban is building a team that can knock them off the top of the SEC mountain. I don't think they are unbeatable, but they are close to being the best thing currently going.

I honestly don't see why our defense can't be as good as theirs, especially with the Defensive genius we have in Coach Saban. Just my opinion.

Aside from having all 44 players on your two deep return from an undefeated national championship year, I really don't know much else they could have going for them.

- They return a Heisman winner and two-time Heisman finalist at QB.
- They return three of the top 10 returning rushers in the SEC (Tebow, Demps, and Rainey)
- They have two OL on the preseason All-SEC first team.
- They also have one of the top 3 TEs in the country.
- They return all 22 of their two deep from their defense that finished 5th nationally in scoring defense (1st in SEC).

On paper, they should be the best team in the SEC in years.

Having said that, I believe Georgia is really being overlooked. They have solid lines on both sides of the ball, and have a pretty favorable schedule. If they can pull off an upset against Florida, they could well win the East.
Considering the preseason favorite rarely wins the SEC (perhaps having a target on their back), Georgia has little hype to live up to.

If I were a betting man, I would still bet heavily on Florida winning not only the East, but the SEC, but I would not discount Georgia completely.

No, you're not the only one. I think the team to beat now is Texas. I believe they are the real #1 team right now. Florida has a lot of talent, but I don't think they're unstoppable like the media is implying. I think Alabama's defense is just as good or better than the Gators. Our backfield has 3 runners who could start on almost any team in the league. However, Florida will probably go undefeated until the SECCG.

Call me crazy, but i think someone is going to pop FLA...and it will be a bit unexpected. They have to go to LSU, and those Cajuns will be all lathered up for that one...that won't be an easy ball game to win.

I also agree that UGA is flying under the radar. They have a stout OL and a very stout front 7...and talent everywhere.

Truth be told I can see the scenario where we could be better than Florida this year. I think our D will be at least as good as theres, but probably better.

They do have some question marks on how they'll be in the passing game with receivers, and the OL has to replacements too. If we can get strong OL play, and McElroy can be a little more than the caretaker JPW was last year, and can actually make the plays that are there...I see us as being a better team than last year and I can see some slippage with UF.

Richt may win an SECCG every once in a while but he doesn't have "it". Saban has "it", Meyer has "it", Miles may even have "it", Richt doesn't.

Richt reminds me of the old adage of "always a bridesmaid but never the bride."

I just remembered how we were beating Florida in 2006...then they came back from behind to beat us.

We have been in position to beat the Gators both years they won the National Championship...but blew it.

Man I can't wait for this season to get started!!!

Don't get me wrong guys. I think we can be every bit as good and possibly better than the Gators, but I feel they deserve the nod until we (or someone else) actually beats them on the field.

I agree. On paper Florida is the best team in the conference, good coach and they currently hold the crown. What is not to like? I think we can beat them. We had the lead and the ball in the fourth quarter against them last year. Just comparing roster to roster (not unit vs. unit like WRs vs. DBs) we are pretty close, but I'd say at least their O-line is some ahead of ours and we start a qb with 0 starts and theirs was the best offensive player in football last year. I like GM, but.... It's a long way out to talk about that match up. Too much can happen between now and December -- injuries, surprise developments, suspensions.... Still fun to talk about though, isn't it?

Tebow has been bragging on his receivers to the media. On the one hand I think he might throw for 3000 yards in a season. On the other I wonder if he doesn't will anyone be able to stop him from picking up 5 yards on 4th and 1?

Don't let anyone tell you they didn't lose anything. They lost Harvin. ;)

While we have closed the gap significantly, UF still holds the edge in overall talent IMO. One glaring difference I noticed in the SECC game was they had superior speed and that hurt us in pass coverage. A lot can happen between now and the first Saturday in December, but until somebody knocks off the Gators they should be #1.
