Over the past few weeks i've noticed a couple of starting players are playing in intramural basketball games. Strange though is that no other sports all there players to participate in intramural sports, anyone know why football players are allowed to while others arent?

A few years ago I played a couple members of the Bama basketball team in intramural football, so it does happen. As far as the intramural rules go, any scolarship athlete can play any intramural sport except the one they are on scolarship for. I would guess it's up to the individual teams on whether they allow their players to participate in intramurals.
As a side note, this year I played two former Alabama football players in intramural football. Zach Fletcher and Victor Ellis. Lets just say that Fletcher still has pretty good hands and speed.

Prothro was great before he got injured. Best three-point shooter I've seen in an intramural game in a while, and he obviously had more than enough speed to drive around just about anyone. I hear he plays now, but I haven't seen him since then.
Ezekial Knight could jump out of the freakin' gym (he dunked on my basketball team many times... so many times).
And yeah, Kieth Brown and DJ Hall are pretty good themselves. I also remember playing Marcus Carter and I think Mark Anderson (this was two years ago).
i have a feeling this wont last thought, Saban would flip if a starter was to roll an ankle playing basketball.

Cornelius Bennett was pretty wicked on the basketball court. There were others in there but I only remember him specifically.
I played softball with several of the football players while I was in school. They said the coaches discouraged it, but couldn't keep them from doing it since it wasnt against the intramual rules.
The track team likes to field a football team and run past everyone. Kind of demoralizing actually.
I played intramural softball in college. One night as we were warming up for our game our whole team was watching in awe as one of the teams that played before us hit ball after ball over the outfielders' heads. These were freakin bombs over the outfielders heads that would land, not roll but land, on another field. As we were taking the field and the previous teams were leaving we recognized a few players on the team. . . Tyler Watts and Lane Bearden (toughest punter ever) were just a few of the many football players that were playing on that team!

I'm on the track team and to my knowledge, we're not allowed to do intramurals but then again, Coach Glance never really said it outright.
Chances are you've gone against our sprinters and decathletes. They're pretty fast.
Distance runners would be best used for receivers and those complicated, long drag routes. We just run everywhere to get open and that'll tire everyone else outWell, I wouldn't think the distance guys would be on the team, but maybe so...
I played against the sprinters my freshman year. Haven't seem them out there since. I also agree with the distance guys at receiver. I ran XC and track in HS and play DB and WR. It just wears everyone else out. Great Fun!
a few weeks ago i saw Brown, Hall, A. Smith, W. Oakley, N. Stover, J. Johns, BJ Stabler, P. Hall, and a couple others in a 5 on 5 pick up game(tubbs and jemison from the basketball team were there too) . They drew quite the crowd. Plus Pro was sittin it out. He had his boot on that day. A. Smith is a beast of a post player.
I played intramural bball against Bobby Humphrey and Gene Jelks.....Needless to say, we got creamed!! I made the mistake of draining a 3 pointer on my first shot......the next 2 were blocked up into the running track above the court!:eek2: Jelks dunked once by jumping over my head. He had real nice tread on the bottom of his sneakers....:wink:
I've played against a few of the track guys in flag football and plently in basketball. Everytime something like this comes on here, everyone always says these guys are student athletes. Let them be students. A little bit of competition in the off season can't hurt. Talk to a few old timers, they will tell you about Namath playing basetball in the church gym all the time. I think everyone has this big misconception about Coach Saban and that he is soooo strict on everyone, altohugh their workouts are tough right now and everyone is on the straight and narrow, doesn't mean that he is going to be dissecting every part of their lives.
