I don't know about winning it all this year, but an SEC title isn't out of the question. A more favorable schedule, a 5th year senior at QB, returning 9 starters on defense, an established RB (hopefully). The only major concern is receiver. We need 3 other WRs to step up and take heat off of Early Doucet.

A more favorable schedule. Maybe from last year since all your tough SEC games are at your place, but I wouldn't call your schedule easy. Opening with an SEC team on the road is always tough, even if it is State. Then you get VT at Death Valley. If you beat them, I will start drinking your kool-aid because your next 2 tough SEC games (Florida/Auburn) are also at home. Then there is Bama in T-Town with all the hype and distractions that will surround that game, Ole Sis away, and then you wrap up with the Hawgs at home. Bottom line, your season will really hinge on what happens on Sept. 8 against VT. If you win, you are probably legit. If you lose, there goes a huge burst of momentum and all early talk of a NC which might impact your SEC play.

That 5th Year Senior hasn't proved anything to alot of folks. I know he beat Miami 2 years ago in a blowout but can he stand up to the rigors of playing a full season in the SEC. We shall see.

I'll give on your D. They are really good.

Ill give on your RB's, too. They are pretty good.

I think your concerns about WR's is a good one, especailly with a new starter at QB.

Also, how solid is your O-Line?

WOW! My two year-old came up with that same exact series of projections ... except he actually had UL Lafayette (instead of Troy) vs. SMU in the New Orleans Bowl.

Seriously, it's garbage like this that makes me deep down ashamed to be a college football fan (because I actually read it with an insatiable appetite) ... while all the more eager for the season to get here quickly before I suffer a serious breakdown.:eek2:

I don't believe that LSU has the arsenal to go to a NCS bowl. They lost Jamarcus Russell to the NFL. He was their ace QB who was also a great RB.

They should do good, but not great.

You could be right, but we won it all with Matt Mauk. Good, dependable QB but not a future all pro.

I agree, the scedule is at home but very tough. One of the games that concern me that no one is mentioning is S.C. Remember the scare the ole ball coach put in Fla.?

Any of the LSU posters on here care to answer the questions posed concerning your O-Line and new OC?
The O-line is good, and Crowton...you know as much or more than I do about him. I've heard the "coachspeak", but I need proof before I buy into things. That leads me to this...
What wins championships?? The very thing LSU is loaded with is D. Nobody can question that. Someone mentioned that there may be a concern in the secondary, but I disagree. In a pre-season All-American list, three from LSU's D backfield are on the 1st or 2nd team. They all have extensive SEC game experience, too.
LSU63 stole my thunder about Matt Mauck, and Flynn is VERY similar. He will not put up the gaudy stats JR did, but, like Mauck, he will not lose the game for us. He is a good game manager, and MUCH more mobile than JR. I know JR had a couple of highlight reel runs in big games last year, but he was a pocket passer, plain and simple. Those runs were the result of the fact that he wasn't known to run. Flynn will surprise people with his running...not his arm. Receivers are, aside from Early Doucet, untested. But, their role this year will be downfield blocking. You should see an entirely different offense with this LSU team compared to the one from the past two seasons. LSU is loaded at RB...and the good thing about it is, not many know it, because of the style of offense LSU ran with Russel at QB, along with Bowe and Davis at WR. Some know of Keiland Williams and Alley Broussard, but there is another, Richard Murphy, that will shock people this year. And Keiland will be so much better as a sophomore...he improved every week last year, and was a stud RB by season's end. Combine that with Flynn's mobility, and you're looking at an entirely different style. It sounds crazy to say JR, Bowe, and Davis won't be missed...they will indeed. But, they won't be necessary for this team to succeed this season.
The comments about Les doing less with more is silly to me. Give UF the same schedule as LSU last year, and they're 11-2 as well. Give USC that schedule, and they're 10-3. Give it to tOSU, and they're 8-5. IMHO, UF should've been playing LSU in the BCSNCG last year...if you really wanted to see the two best teams play. Now, I realize that wouldn't have been logical...or even fair...but if it was really the two best teams, that is who they were.
Understand this...I don't have a clue who will be #1-25 by season's end, nor does anyone else. A lot of people are over looking the LSU-VT game early in the season...that concerns me big time. That's a tough opponent that early with a new OC, QB, punter, and others. This is, as has been stated, the silliest thing writers do...these preseason picks. These and $3 might buy you a gallon of gas...or diesel, in some places. But I chimed in because every argument against LSU was about how they lost so much talent. It's true, they did. But defense wins championships, and especially wins tough home games in Tiger Stadium. LSU didn't lose much on D, and what they did lose will be replaced by capable, experienced players. (just wish Laron Landry could be cloned!!!) It will be interesting the see the whole thing play out, and I, like you, can't wait for September! (August in our case...vs. MSU)

Having one of the best defenses in the country will get you very, very far.

As far as your offense lets you go - see '05 Bama..
