I need to give "Everything" another chance. It's not that I didn't like it, just that I started it one evening and then life got in the way and I never finished it. I enjoyed what I had see so far, which was about 30 minutes or so.

It would be hard for me to name a best movie of the decade so far. There is a lot I have really enjoyed.

Knives Out
The Banshees of Inisherin
Ford v Ferrari
The Holdovers
Top Gun: Maverick
Wicked: Part 1

I'm a sucker for James Cameron and Steven Spielberg. I loved Avatar: The Way of Water more than the first one. I also thought Spielberg's version of West Side Story was an improvement over the already great original from Robert Wise. I think the orchestrations, cinematography, direction, singing and choreography were all better in Spielberg's. He also did a better job at capturing the feel of the upper west side in Manhattan. This is all my opinion of course.

Anyway, that is a taste of what I have really enjoyed in the 2020s so far.

I don’t think the Disney era of SW will ever be accepted. It’s because they took a very mean, discombobulated, and political approach towards the fans. The Acolyte may have been the worst offender of them all. The story of Luke Skywalker and his band of outcasts was what got everyone into Star Wars, and basically from day 1 Disney has pretty much hired every controversial director and writer to tear down that story in whatever way they can. The reason the prequels are getting a positive reflection now is because 1) The clone wars show really made up for them and 2) It really didn’t insult the fans.

Star Wars is probably dead at this point. Yeah it could probably have an unexpected win like Andor but ultimately i think the Acolyte killed whatever good faith Andor provided.
Andor was the best star wars since Empire Strikes Back. Nothing in the prequel era came close. Rogue one is now good because of the character development of Andor added the missing element that made that movie miss the mark. The last 4 episodes of the Clone Wars, taken together as a single film is the 2nd best Star Wars since Empire and Skeleton Crew was a lot of fun. At this point Disney is close to as many good star wars as Lucas. Even Lucas's SW's would have sucked without his ex-wifes editing and Kirschner making the best on in Empire

Acolyte was a huge miss but is has nothing to do with the politics. You know "Luke and his band of outcasts" was supposed to be Viet Cong fighting the US Empire, right? It has always been political

Skeleton Crew was a lot of fun, that show surprised me. It was like “A Goonies Star Wars”.

Crap, I forgot about those movies. Both of them were fantastic. Better than the MCU Spider-man movies.
Into came out in 2018 so it didn't fit the criteria for this decade

Not one person would have gotten that connection if Lucas didn’t say it years later. But even so it was never “in your face” as Rian Johnson and the Disney show runners have made it. They sacrifice story for 21st century political dialogue.

I gripe about uncreative films, but here is one that I found wildly creative.
A group of men behind the scenes control your life to make sure you stay "on the plan." A little bit paranoid, but creative. It does not hurt that Matt Damon and Emily Blount are the two lead actors. They are both quite good.

Wow -- a group of "men" take the place of God? Choice? Free will? Pre-planned life? I must see this...if it is as good as the trailer I will be enthralled.

Thanks for sharing...

I took them more as representing angels, because they do reference "The Big Guy," or some such, and the guys are very hierarchical.

I found it to be a good story, well acted, and entertaining.

I bought this movie when it came out - a really interesting story written by one of my all-time fav authors, Phillip K Dick.

I'm puzzled. Why all the hate for the film? I watched the trailer, and it's pretty much stock Disney: fluffy story line, young girl singing pop soundtrack tunes, cute little fuzzy animals hopping around. At least the g.d animals didn't talk (my biggest runaway moment for these types of movies).
It started when Disney cast a Latina actress to play Snow WHITE. Oh, the pearls that were clutched that day!

Add to that MAGA antipathy towards Disney's perceived "wokeness".

Then Rachel Zegler made some pro-Palestinian statements, which quickly turned into stories of a falling out between her and her co-star Gal Godot.

The quality (or lack thereof) of the movie is irrelevant at this point.

Me, I'm just tired of Disney remaking everything. There have been a couple of great remakes of Disney Classics--101 Dalmatians, purely on the strength of Glenn Close, Cinderella, kinda, because of wonderful production design. Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother didn't hurt either. But most have been overwhelmingly meh.

Being real - part of the problem is that we're supposed to believe that Gadot is jealous of Ziegler. I get suspension of disbelief but c'mon... 😆
As one who has never heard of Ziegler and only vaguely aware of Gadot, I really don’t care.

Yeah, that's a damn good movie. Arrival is another good one.

The problem started when Zegler opened her mouth and showed us how crazy she was. I don’t see the same level of criticism about the race swapping like there was in the little mermaid.

Probably the biggest thing that kept the controversy going was Peter Dinklage getting the name changed by complaining about “dwarves” being a slur and then Disney kept flip flopping about whether they are dwarves or magical bandits. Then deciding on bandits, and when people saw said bandits they got destroyed so they rewrote it to where there are both bandits and nightmare inducing cgi dwarves.

Most of the praise for the movie is for RZ even with her mouth. But ultimately this a film that Disney is hoping to forget about.

oh no, the bandits and dwarves were always the plan and it is a total coincidence that there just happens to be 7 of them also.

I actually heard someone say these words.
