singular focus, can’t win’em all if you don’t win the first one. Most interested in how the formations look in game one. More like A-Day or will we see some flavor in the offense Defense?

Since we're around a 31 point favorite we'll get a chance to see if DeBoer's way of handling a big lead is different from Saban. It was Saban's style to send the backups into the game to just basically run the ball, take time off the clock and not embarrass the opponent any further. Some here were critical of that. DeBoer OTOH might continue being aggressive with the offense letting Simpson throw the ball around more and continue scoring points.

He doesn’t have to be aggressive, he just has to let the second team do its thing. Simpson and company have been on the field, they can get set, audible, etc. The second team needs reps executing plays that might actually be called in a game. Those guys are one dogpile away from being a starter.

You want to put the third string guys in and run dives so they get the butterflies out? Fine. The second string is beyond the butterfly stage.

There are really only two legitimate criticisms of Saban: he trusted the old heads a little too much and the more talented youngsters suffered, and he never really prepared the second string on the offense.

That does nothing for Milroe's development.
Yeah, I agree. Not only Milroe but everyone needs more reps to fully implement the new schemes, on both sides of the ball. Hopefully, CKD will see this as an opportunity to continue the learning rather than going vanilla so we don't show future opponents too much. I'm hoping to see 1s and 2s get meaningful reps, which does not bode well for WKU.

Vanilla football, run between the tackles.....
That is not what you get with a DeBoer offense. If this is what some fans are expecting, you will be very disappointed.

2023 Washington was #2 in avg passing yrds/game with 343.7 but, #106 in avg rushing yrds/game with 118.4. (For reference; Bama was #70 in passing yrds with 220.4 and #47 in rushing yrds with 172.6)

Even against lesser opponents, I don't expect CKD to go vanilla, doesn't seem like his style.

I'm curious to see how the staff has adjusted their Washington offense to fit what they have here.

How does Milroe handle the short and intermediate passing game.

Curious to see how the D looks.

I think CKD tries to score as much as he can. From a "first impression" standpoint he can't afford stumbling and bumbling out of the gate and winning by 14 or less. I think it's gas pedal to the floor and any second stringers, like Ty Simpson, will get to air it out and score as well. Massive blowout.

I can't wait for Saturday, mainly because I don't really know what this team will look like this year. I'm expecting a high-powered offense, and I want to see where Mr. Milroe is now in his development as a QB. I think the defense will be good, but there were a lot of holes to fill. I'm looking for a great first game effort. I sure don't want to see a bumbling around South Florida 2023 effort. I'm think we hit the field running and start the year off right.

This has been an outstanding coaching transition thus far. I have watched all the coaching changes since the Bear. This one with Coach DeBoer and the Shula-to-Saban transition were by far the best. Saban and DeBoer are seasoned professionals. i am very hopeful for the future of Bama football.
