Game Day Traditions

I'm a simple guy - NEVER allowing anything to happen that would cause me to miss so much as a single moment of the game !

RRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLL TIDE ROLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :biggrin2:

...listening to Denny Chimes as I walk on the quad, singing Sweet Home Alabama, reliving our great history on the jumbotron, swelling with pride as the current team runs out onto the field.... knowing that these boys hold within their grasp an opportunity to bring the history all back and make it the present.

I'm rip-roaring drunk at kick-off. The fact I work nights and basically drink for a living makes the 11:30 games especially hard on a man my age.

Oddly enough, Saturday morning MDB rehearsal on Butler Field. The crisp October morning air made it feel all that more special for some reason.

The Giant Damn Flag is one of my personal favorites.

The Giant Damn Flag

I can just hear the pa announcer right now he he at BD stadium announcing the arrival of that huge flag in that phrase. :biggrin2:

is that a better flag than say,,a giant flag,,,or does the giant flag annoy you in some way. help me im confused.

I am wondering if you missed the part about that being the official name of "that flag". Those of us who've been associated with it in the past can speak with authority on the matter.

By the way, how's the campaign coming, Rev. Moore? Building a bridge back to the 19th century wasn't as easy as you thought, eh?

for me, there's nothing like waking up, packing all my Crimson gear, stopping at the store for a 12-pack, then climbing behind the wheel of my Piper airplane. By the time I reach Tuscaloosa, it's time for more beer so upon landing, I load up my Hummer that I keep at the airport and drive over to campus. By the time I make my way through traffic, it's time for more beer so I walk over to the package store, pay through the nose for beer and bourbon, head over to the Quad and crash someone's tailgate. Then I watch the game from my skybox. After the game repeat the process, but in reverse.

you left out the part about being beat to a pulp by another drunk fan and winding up in jail.

Setup a tent on the Quad Friday night. Put the beer on ice and make sure the meat, condiments, and other food is ready to go. Wake up early Saturday...shower...put on my gameday attire. Grab everything I packed the night before and head out to the Quad. Make myself a bourbon and coke...sit down and breathe in the Alabama air. Put the TV on Gameday and get pumped about the countdown to kickoff. Start the meat cooking and snack on chips. Eat a burger, or BBQ depending on the meat that weekend, make myself another bourbon and coke, and head to the Strip. Go to Gallette's (sp) to get a Yellow Hammer and watch a little football there to stay out of the heat. Walk down to the Houndstooth and get a beer and maybe a sandwich from Big Bad Wolf BBQ if I am hungry by then. Head back to the Quad to check in with everyone...grab a cold beer out of the cooler...and head to the Stadium about 45 minutes before kickoff. After entering the stadium I'm sure everyone else here knows the story. After the game...if we win...go to the Houndstooth to celebrate and talk about how great of a team we are and how much we all hate Auburn and UT. If we lose (heaven forbid) I go back to the Quad to drink more beer and hope that Auburn and UT lose that day if at all possible.

That's pretty much my Saturday.

I need to find you on gameday! We might be separated at birth.

My son plays mini-mite football and normally has a game every Saturday so it's hard for us to get up to T-Town unless it's a night game. That being said:

Get up Saturday morning and put the peanuts on to boil.
Add some Zatarain's crab boil to the pot and let'em boil for a while.
Watch College Gameday while the peanuts boil away.
Turn'em off and head to the field to watch the boy play some mean defense.
Rush home to watch the game and munch on those peanuts...EeeewwWeeee!
