I hope CMR finds someone soon. Every time he misses on a DC now, it gets closer to CKS. I think he is respectfully waiting til after the NCG to go hard after CKS. Just like Mal Moore did. Missed on Rich Rod, and a couple of others to postpone an opportunity to go after Saban when his season was over. Mal probably wanted Saban from the beginning, but timing is everything, and CMR doesn't want to cause ripples in CKS task of preparing us for the big game. It makes me nervous.

Georgia hasn't even found a replacement puppy for Uga, how do you expect them to come up with a coordinator anytime soon? ;)

Finding an appropriate replacement for the highest office in the state is not as easy as before.

There is apparently a genetic defect in the royal breed.

I'd occurs to me that what may be called for is a leaner, more active UGA.

And fewer milkbones.

Glass, I think you're giving Richt too much credit. Sure he's a nice guy or whatever and heals sick children in his spare time, but this is a business and he knows that if he waits too long for CKS he could miss out on everyone. MM got lucky with CNS, but there was some evidence he wasn't happy where he was. There is no evidence CKS is unhappy and the move would be latteral for him at best. I understand your thought process, because my initial thought was the same as yours. However, after thinking it out some more I think we are safe with CKS.

It would make me nervous if I didn't have so much faith in CNS to make a good hire at every coaching position.

I kind of agree. I, too, hope Richt finds someone soon, but I don't think that Richt is necessarily 'respectfully waiting'. I think he made a good play for Smart, and Smart declined.

I'm still just a little worried that if he can't get any other top DC that he may come back and makes Smart a huge offer that he just can't refuse.

I just can't see this happening. It could, but I don't see it at all. I think CKS has got a sweet job right now. I think if he stays at Alabama someone will make him their head coach in a couple of years. I think if he stays at Alabama he will attrack a better head coaching offer when the time comes.

I've said this to several people over the last few weeks: do not worry about losing CKS. Alabama is running Nick Saban's defense, and he can find the next Muschamp, Steele, Smart, etc. to plug into any vacancy we might have. Smart will be leaving soon enough, but he's blinded by "Momma calling" if he goes to UGA in a lateral move this year. Richt & Co. could be completely gone in very short order. Stay at Bama, and Smart might actually be a candidate in UGA's next HEAD coaching search.

You'd have to believe he would be one of the favorites if Richt is shown the door in the next 2-3 years, as long as he stays at Bama. :biggrin2:

He's on pretty thin ice in Champaign. He's banking on two new coordinators (Paul Petrino and Vic Koenning) to whether the storm.
Zook fired four assistants on the offense, then he also dropped the co-DCs to position coaches. Zook had to do something, he's had one good year and three 3 win seasons out of the five he has been here. Recruits are bailing so the long walk that is Illini football continues......

I disagree. Kirby Smart is a top assistant, on one of the top programs in the country. He just won the Frank Broyles Award for the top assistant coach in the country, and he's bound for a head coaching job soon. Even if he is a Georgia alum, he's not going to be some third or fourth choice, after Georgia whiffed on the likes of Vic Koenning. Regardless, Mark Richt's seat is starting to get heat, and there's talk that he may be ready to move away from coaching all-together. That's hardly the recipe for an up-and-coming assistant coach to go into.

Ron Zook is lucky that Illinois found their way into the Rose Bowl, because of the Rose Bowl committee's archaic selection process. I believe that he would be gone if he didn't have that to rest his hat on.

Having read a few articles on this, I have yet to actually see anyone confirm any offer was made.....just that Richt talked to him

He had some Top 30 D's at CU but man they were soft....just looking at CU's Scout site, most were laughing at UGA for thinking of him.

Things happen for a reason as we all know

I give Richt the benefit of the doubt as their previous DC before Willie was good and Bobo has turned out solid....so I am sure he will find someone

UGA will never be GREAT but a decent DC will have them in SECCG contention, imo.

The talent is still there....

David Hale (Macon Telegraph) reported that CMR did extend an official offer to CKS and that it was turned down, and that's why the offer was made to CVK. I can't link it from work, but I read it last night.

Why would Paul Petrino leave his brother's staff at Arkansas and go to Illinois and coach for another "dead man walking"? Maybe he can lure Ellis Johnson from USCe and to make it sweeter Johnson could sue USCe.
