Nearly two years to the day after a tragic early morning crash on Jan. 15, 2023, killed University of Georgia football player Devin Willock and recruiting analysis Chandler LeCroy, Willock’s family has filed a lawsuit against the Georgia Board of Regents seeking $2 million for the death of their son.

The complaint, filed in an Athens court on Wednesday, alleges the university negligently entrusted LeCroy with the rented Ford Expedition she was driving at the time of the crash. The SUV was one of several leased by the University of Georgia Athletic Association to ferry players, recruits and their families the weekend of the football national championship celebration.

players last year served 1 game suspensions

No one else is suspending players for driving related charges

I am glad that steps are being taken though and I truly hope both are kicked off the team (though I doubt it)

but if I get a speeding ticket tomorrow, my punishment is related to myself and my own incident

right now, Kirby is making the punishment worse than what any other school makes it. I hope he pushes that even further and kicks them off the team, I truly do.

at some point it becomes about disrespecting the program and less about the "level" of the crime. The problem with kicking off the team is that some school will pick them up. Along with revamping NIL / transfers / etc, there should be a standard that if you're kicked off a team - anywhere for any reason - you're ineligible to play for a year at any NCAA school (D1 - D3). Schools are spending inordinate $$ to get a guy to attend. Then they help get them the NIL stuff. You want to act like a fool? Ok, we'll treat you like a fool. If I'm a leader on the team, I'm probably gonna also exert some of my own "discipline" for making everybody look bad and probably having stricter rules put on the whole shebang. That doesn't necessarily mean "violence" but it does mean making the guy(s) realize there are serious consequences beyond just sitting out a game or two.

honestly an excellent idea on not being allowed to transfer if kicked off a team

Sadly, some of this is a chess move when you have to fear kicking a talented player off your team and your rival picking them up

The meme is jaw-droppingly incomplete. It leaves out the number of dead bodies associated with those arrests.

It also leaves out the number of lawsuits against the school's Board of Regents and whether they're resolved or pending.

And if resolved, the manner of resolution -- settlement or jury verdict?

If jury verdict, was it a finding of liability or no liability?

If a finding of liability, what was the monetary amount of the liability?

ANY reasonable organization that has any kind of public face with these levels of crimes would remove these people from their organization. Not only does this kind of behavior make your organization look bad, but you generally get more of what you allow. See Florida under UM for a not-so-great example.

I don't disagree in the slightest. It is bad, it has been bad, and drastic measures need to be taken and players need to be made an example of. I will echo though that its a shame that another team can just pick them up and will.

It is just hard to kick someone off a team for a misdemeanor charge. Most would agree, and insurance companies/courts do, that a DUI is worse than reckless driving. No one is kicking players off teams for DUI's.

Again, I truly hope the players are kicked off the team and made an example of.

But no other program has the crazy number of reckless driving instances UGA does either. It's one thing to have a few isolated incidents. You can blame the individual players. But when it reaches the number it has then the problem is no longer "isolated" and has become an institutional problem. Is there something going on within the program that is promoting or causing these things to keep happening? That question needs to be asked and looked into.

I am not disagreeing and even said that I hope it goes as far as dismissing the players from the program. Enough is enough

my devils advocate point being though is that if 10 people received reckless driving charges that worked where you did in their personal vehicles and no action was taken, and then you received a reckless driving charge and were fired..... would it be "fair"..... and now if it is not fair, can they turn around and sue the program for that?

Just discussion. You have programs hiring COACHES who have done MUCH worse
