Game Thread: Georgia Tech vs. Clemson

I don’t know why many Bama fans are so insanely critical on a guy that kicked our posteriors and many coaches believe to be a really good qbs. But when Tua in a slightly critical light it’s like there are a bunch of hound dogs out barking at a treed animal.

I think Clemson has just made some of y’all just stay in the denial stage of grief for far too long instead of moving onto to the other stages. At some point you have to get to the acceptance phase.

Clemson is a very good team, Dabo is a very good coach, and TL is a very good qb... so are CNS, Alabama, and Tua. If they meet then we will find out which team is better this year, but Alabama and Clemson are 2 of the best teams with two of the best coaches and two of the best QBs.

I just don't buy the hype. Look, that effort last night will get them to 13-0. Yes... that effort still beats A&M and South Carolina, IMO. As a team, Clemson's only peers are Alabama and maybe Georgia.

But I'm just not buying the TL is the best QB in the country talk, even after they whipped our butts in the NC game. I do think he's got all the tools... I do think he will be that someday... just not right now. It's just an opinion about one player.

That statement is the ultimate hyperbole. You are saying they are on the same level as South Carolina or Missouri. Honestly, they could probably announce that they will not run a pass play for the remainder of the regular season and go 9-3. I mentioned in another post that you can't take away much from the game last night, but one thing you can take away is that they are in a different stratosphere from the rest of the ACC and 90% of the rest of the Power 5 teams.

I don't have issue with the argument right there. I feel like there is lot of questions about this year team that needs to be answered and we will know more next week and in coming weeks. Right now, I view them as average based on what I saw last night. Next week, once they open up playbook and etc... I'll know more.

let’s try naming qbs better than him...

If you think Tua then fine, but I still say they are even at worse.

Then you have Herbert... An Oregon qb. I think if you are talking about potentially overrated then here you go.

After that it’s bunch of transfers and folks that you don’t usually have in the discussion. Like Fromm, Eason, Patterson, Martinez (Nebraska), Ehlinger, and Hurts.

So at the very least TL is a top 3 QB.

He's Andrew Luck Good --

But he's not HOF good -- and everyone's treating him like he's the next Manning... he's not

That reference sounds more like Tua than TL. But even then it makes no sense because Tua actually would won a championship. Personally I believe both Tua and TL have short to average careers in the NFL and someone like Fromm or Eason is in the running to be in Canton.

The hype for TL is no worse than the hype for Tua last year. Both are overhyped to an extent, but both are really good QBs and probably the best in college football. At some point some of y’all need to accept that TL is one of the best returning starting quarterbacks in 2019 and stop this whining over the guy because you didn’t see Clemson winning like they did in the National Championship.

Geez... I'm not whining. I'm not sure why there is such a burr under your saddle about this.

He's not as accurate as Tua. Not even close. Ok well there's a lot more that goes into being a great QB than accuracy, I get that. But I haven't seen many in my lifetime as accurate as Tua. I would rank Fromm ahead of TL at this point in time. Like I said, he's got all the tools, but IMO, he's not the best QB out there - yet. I never said he wasn't top 3 good or whatever. Just that's he's not the best, I don't think he should be named the Heisman winner as many in the media seem to think, and I think Tua is better. Despite the NC game result. I've accepted they kicked our butts in that game. I don't have to accept this about their QB though. One does not necessarily have anything to do with the other. If we swapped QBs in that game, they beat us far worse, IMO, even though it was already bad enough. I guess you think I (and others) are just trying to salvage something positive from that nightmare. And maybe we are, but I honestly believe it to be true, whatever its worth, which isn't much when it comes to the trophy case.

I agree with you about their careers in the NFL, unless they are able to adjust their game. Running QBs, so called athletic QBs, are not long for that league. Pocket passers that get rid of the ball are still where its at if you want a 15 year career.

That post wasn’t directed at you, nor was the 1st one you quoted.

FTR I have no issue with someone saying TL is overhyped , Tua is better, or that maybe he gets bailed out by his receivers as long as you acknowledge that he is a top qb coming into 2019.

10-4. Either way, no matter what I think, they are going to be in the NC race at the end, again. They would be playing an SEC schedule too...

i've seen the Luck comparisons but its not a good one for Lawrence. Luck could put the ball where he wanted to put it. Thats what great QB's do. Lawrence cant do that. We have a guy that can. Lawrence isnt even the best Clemson QB of the past 5 years. People seem to forget how good Watson was

I just hope if we match up with them again, our D can get pressure on him. I believe our DBs will be much improved, far better than things turned out to be by the end of the year last year.

really need better defensive back play. The 60 yd TD to Higgens was broken coverage by Thompson. No idea why his eyes were in the backfield. the 74 yd TD to Ross was the play Smith fell on the play. a few others you just tip your hat. The Wr's made great plays. But Smith really struggled that night

The luck comparison doesn’t work in how the poster intended it to be, but if you compare their first year college stats then you’d probably be surprised who was better.

But any HOF measurement for Tua, TL, or any current college qb in college is absurd.
