Georgia wrap-up: Bama didn’t just need a win – it needed revival
by Jess Nicholas, TideFans.com Editor-In-Chief

It seems over the years there have been so many times when Alabama was doubted, mocked or otherwise put to pasture as a program that when the inevitable rise from the grave occurs, those who lined up to throw dirt on the Alabama program seem shocked by their own misevaluation, to the point that they go looking for their own six-feet-deep hole in which to bury their stupefaction.

Thanks, Jess! The ESPN stat sheet for the Georgia defense only showed one sack. That one where Germie lost 6 yards during the 1st quarter 2nd touchdown drive. The Ty sack wasn't recorded. Or so it seems. Not by ESPN anyways.

I think they called a sack on Ty on that discombobulated play where we went for it on 4th down. Ty had to keep it and was tackled for a loss.

Comparing Ty to Coker is criminal IMO, and I love Coker…
I love Coker too and his final games in the CFBP were amazing but our Offense that year in general went through Henry.

Coker wasn’t asked to win games before then and there were some throws he couldn’t consistently make.

Ty has been carving people up for weeks and smartly picking and choosing his spots to run.

Plus that Deep throw he made that RW dropped hit that boy on the head of a Pin.

That was a Mac/Tua BIGTIME throw with coverage on the WR

Coker could never let’s be real.

Ty is playing at a AJ, Tua, Mac type level.

If only Alabama had a Heisman winning quarterback to compare Ty’s performance to…
Bryce?

It's a tough comparison to make.

Bryce was Elite at the LOS and was basically the OC on the field.

He was very high level at the Intermediate and Short game. Probably 9.5 to 10/10 at that stuff.

His Deep Ball was average to below average though. 4/10 to 5/10 or so. Maybe 6 or 7 to Jamo.

So Ty right now I'd say is 9/10 to 10/10 on short to intermediate stuff when he throws on schedule but maybe 7/10 when pressured. So 8/10 to 8.5/10

We still have such a small sample on Ty's Deep Ball but it looks better than Bryce's to me.

So Ty might not be as good as Bryce at what Bryce did best but Ty might end up being more well rounded at the CFB level... Heisman or no Heisman.

FWIW right now I have Bama QBs ranked like this

Elite:

1a) Mac: Zero weak spots and could make every throw. Most Accurate and Best Deep Ball by FAR.
1b) Tua: Almost no weak spots and could make every throw. Best Anticipatory Thrower.

3) Bryce: Surgical at the underneath stuff and Brilliant at the LOS. Weak Deep Ball

Very Good:

4) AJ: Pretty well rounded at all the requirements. Could make all the throws. Absolute GENERAL on the field.

Ty has shown that with time to throw he can be highly accurate like Mac and Tua and also has the threat of a Deep Ball... If it's caught.

If he's pressured he does not have the accuracy of the Top 3 right now and his release isn't as quick.

It's only been 4 games though but he has flashed some moments that look as good as any of those 4 guys and for sure should in no way be compared to Coker (no offense to Coker - I love Coker).

I completely agree with this. Look at the stats of other Heisman quarterbacks. Mac beat them all in the most important stats, such as completion percentage, quarterback rating, and touchdown:interception ratio. At the risk of crossing over into non-sports territory, in any year other than 2020, Mac would’ve won the Heisman.

Based on the small sample size to-date, it’s reasonable to think that Ty could be in this realm by the time his crimson career concludes…

Good point, because Ty was (in my opinion) trying to execute a running play, which would have meant the tackle there would have been treated as a regular TFL rather than a sack. However, then I read the OL pressures report and they have VanDeMark tagged with a sack allowed, which is where the TFL on that play came through, so I'm not sure even the statisticians are on the same page with this one.
