Glen Coffee's face mask

I know this is an odd post, but does anyone know why he has a linebacker face mask? Is there a story?

i remember shaun alexander had a big ol' face mask his first two years here. i am not sure why he has that. it really does look funny. it's not a linebacker facemask. it is a nose tackle's face mask. lol.

Players choose the "lineman" style of facemask (3 bar), the more extended version, because it provides more protection. But another reason it is chosen is because it looks unique. It restricts neck flexibility front to back, however, and its not uncommon to see a player change to a 2 bar style later on.

Well it's not a good idea for backs and receivers to have a facemask with a vertical bar in front of the eyes/nose area. It could mess up focusing for catching the ball.

Coffee's facemask does not have a vertical bar on it. As a matter of fact, I don't think any of the facemasks these days have vertical bars on them, pretty positive on that. Even the linemen and linebackers don't have vertical bars on their facemasks (at least down the middle).

Well if face masks don't have a vertical bar in front of the eyes, it doesn't make much difference how big the mask is.

Most running backs are going to larger face masks to keep from getting poked in the eyes believe it or not! Besides, this kids a stud he may want to play linebacker!
