Good article about Nussmeier

I agree with the writer saying that the talent level at Alabama will greatly aid Nuss in his offense. This guy is probably licking his chops seeing our talent!

Like I said when Coach Mac left, I trust Saban to find the right OC for our team. It looks like he did. I have had my doubts about our 2012 team, but I'm starting to feel like this could be a special bunch, as well. Any way you look at it, Alabama football is a lot more fun to watch these days than they were between 1997 and 2007.

Just a question - has there been an official announcement on his hiring, or did I miss it? It seems strange that no official announcement has been made yet.

Brock Huard, a friend of Nussmeier, said on local Montgomery radio today that he is the new OC for Alabama. He said he spoke with him last night and he was getting ready to head down to T-town. Not sure about the official announcement, but he's telling people he is the new OC.

Everything I've been reading leads me to believe Nussmeier is great at developing quarterbacks. My understanding is Sarkisian was/is the mind that developed the offense and calls the plays. I have a great deal of faith that CNS hired who he believes is the best at what he wants to accomplish offensively. Just seems like a big stage in the best conference in America.

They said the same thing about Coach Smart, but Smart is sure getting a lot of respect nationwide.

I sure hope he brings that red zone efficiency to Tuscaloosa with him. Everyone immediately thinks of the LSU game, but we've struggled pretty consistently with scoring touch downs in the red zone for a while now. That more than any other change could make Alabama a much more dominate team in the future. Yes I know we have scored 30+ this year and we've dominated people already, but I believe red zone improvement would give people all the points they could ever want to see and not change up our basic balance between offense and defense on our team. We can still be grinders, control the ball and the clock all the while scoring more points creating a more dominating look to a game. Let's face it, while we might completely control a game during the season it doesn't look as dominate if its 24-3 as if it's 49-3. Statistically however the games could be identical with the only difference being red zone efficiency.

I say this because if the reality we live in now of the BCS, the polls, the high scoring PAC and big 12 offenses out there. I love a 9-6 game and I believe even that score can show you beat the tar out of someone. But more and more its become a image thing so if we can keep doing what we're doing but make it look more impressive for those who only read headlines and watch the scores scroll across the bottom of the screen I'm all for that. Unfortunately those are the voters these days.

With a first-year starting quarterback at Washington this season, Nussmeier help the Huskies score touchdowns on 42 of 52 trips inside the red zone. That's an 80% touchdown rate inside the red zone, second best nationally

Sounds like a good hire to me.

:BigA:

one thing of concern - Nuss didn't call plays at UW. Think he's up to it?

He called the plays at several previous locations as OC. In fact he called the plays for his CFL team in only his second year as a coach. He's been doing it from early in his career and has been around some great offensive minds for most of his career. Will he have things to learn in the SEC? yes. Does he have the look of an up and comer? very much so.
