GOOD GAME TONIGHT

Was at the game. Tremendous atmosphere. I honestly did not encounter 1 obnoxious okla fan……very classy all the way around
Went to Norman back in……2002? I forget. Great trip, I too encountered not one obnoxious OU fan. They all were saying, “ You folks REALLY take your football seriously down there! “ They could not believe the number of motor homes that made the trip. Of course, that was back in the day when “ college “ football was still college football.

I lived close to Oklahoma when I lived in Nebraska. So i mingled with them every now and then. Generally they were what older Nebraska fans of the Devaney era were in that they were proud of their team and classy.

But after they beat us in the Sugar bowl something shifted. I don’t know if it was because they felt disrespected of how Alabama fans didn’t really care about losing the game or if Stoops just riled them up but good god the OU-UA series became a heated affair after that.

Long story short… I want to beat Oklahoma more than I ever want to beat Texas or Notre Dame. Mostly because Ive had to hear the nonsense more from their fans than the other two. Texas really only cares about beating two teams and looking like a princess, Notre Dame only cares about looking relevant, but Oklahoma actually cares about winning football games against the blue bloods.

I remember that home and home series. We lost both. That was the franphony years, started the game with an onsides kick in Norman.

I have observed this same sudden 180 in a huge chunk of their fanbase, especially the new ones.

It's like when Stoops when on his tirade about the SEC, all of a sudden they drank Sooner-Aid or something.

Before that night I really never had any issues with Oklahoma other than I thought they were constantly awarded national championship bouts by the BCS that they probably shouldn’t deserved but it was the system. But it seemed like overnight I got flooded with nonstop texting and messages about how Oklahoma is greater than Alabama, Bama fans are trash, Bama is sore losers, and this that and the other. I’m like “where did this come from?”

Note that they are nowhere near classless fans like Georgia and Florida. But good god they are as annoying as their fight song should they win. I love Oklahoma vs Bama matchups but I hate losing them.

We won a sort of moral victory (I hate those) in 2002 because we'd just struggled with MTSU, hadn't been good in years, and were under a horrid probation.

That game had us convinced we could weather the storm. Maybe we could have - except the ship's captain jumped overboard with his own life raft and left all the passengers aboard a sinking ship.

How did that work out for him? He's not exactly remembered as one of the great coaches of all time...good analogy!

His Father in law as buried with an Alabama shirt on. Wish I had the picture of him in front of the scoreboard at TAMU when he lost like 100-0.

And the constant 'friendly yet condescending' posts from the the dirt burglar fans on this forum during this time is why I laugh at everyone talking about how 'classy' they are.

Oklahoma and Nebraska fans are generally the same to me. They generally have this weird nice but condescending tone when talking about beating your team but it’s worth a trip to Walmart on Sunday morning to see all the Hoos boohoo Who.

They both have two radically different fan types in their fan bases in which I would categorize them as OU: Wilkerson fans and Modern fans (switzer and Stoops) and NE: Devaney fans and Osborne fans. The older fans in both fan bases are some of the best fans you’ll ever meet but the newer generation has this arrogance and entitlement syndrome going to them especially towards B1G the SEC.

Where they differ is that Oklahoma’s modern fans are just annoying and the Osborne Nebraska fans are the spawns of Satan. But to expect either to acknowledge a loss on a rival’s board shouldn’t be expected. I’m not @selmaborntidefan in the history of this site but I don’t recall WBS having a reply when we beat them in the orange bowl either. But I’ll happily like to be proven wrong too. (which I was)

He did.

He even started a thread.

Great game. It's a honor to be on the field with Bama. Didn't turn out our way, but we didn't quit. Good luck against Clemson.

BOOMER SOONER ROLL TIDE

This is the focal point, Bill.

Ordinarily a friendly pre-game post in the Bama pre-game thread and he isn't seen afterwards - no biggie.

But when you START your OWN thread........
