Before you coronate Saban as the god of football, look at his record while at LSU. Even the years that we won the SEC (other than 2003) our record was not as good as it was the last 2 years. So if you look at it like that Miles is winning more with sabans players than saban did:cool2:
Or Saban's classes got better and better as he built up LSU. Most people feel your team this year was the most talent rich team in the country. The real standouts though weren't recruited by Miles.
I agree with the not coronating Saban just yet. The talk of "When do you think Saban will win our next NC" is somewhat silly.
On the flipside, don't get ahead of yourself coronating Les Miles either. It's not uncommon for new coaches to come in and have immediate success the first few years with another coach's players, then fizzle off. I seem to remember another LSU coach named Gerry Dinardo who went 7-4-1, 10-2, 9-3 his first 3 years only to fizzle to 7-15 in his final 2 years. There was also a guy named Mike Archer who preceeded Dinardo by starting 10-1-1 and 8-4 only to get canned after going 9-13 his next two years.
My only point is that to correlate Miles' last 2 seasons with long-term success isn't accurate. My gut tells me that he'll be a good coach, but he's only proven that he can coach the players that were there (and those were some darn good players) to decent success. He still has to prove he can be the CEO and maintain the momentum that the program currently has over the long term.
So far Miles hasn't proven that he's moved LSU forward from where Saban left it. Saban took a 3-8 team and won a NC in 4 years (his players) and never won fewer than 8 games in a season while Miles had the benefit of taking over a 9-3 team that was 2 years removed from the National Championship.
Hope this doesn't sound like I'm trashing your coach cause I'm not. Just saying that I don't think you can compare Miles' 2 years worth of games, especially considering the situation he walked into, to Saban's track-record at LSU. It's just too soon.
