from what I see on facebook and r/atlanta it looks like they are starting in the old fourth ward down to Grant park and then rolling West as well as hitting apartments around town in big chunks. Makes me want to move South
i moved to the southside in 2001 and have never considered living anywhere else in atlanta. now we might actually have decent infrastructure for something. ;)

Apparently Google waits until there are enough requests in each fiberhood before installing it into that part of the grid. if it will be available in your area (depends on how far out you are) you just need to get enough people in your area to request it and Google will drop the lines.

yeah I keep begging my neighbors

I am thrilled to see that Google is finally starting to look at turning on dark fiber. I know there are fiber runs right past my neighborhood I watched them get installed ~2005/6 and can't wait till we can tap in.

And that totally differs from the Huntsville model, where the fiber will be run to each and every household, Google or not. It'll be a matter whether to install the Google interface or one of the other ISPs...

Well, I thought I'd resurrect this, since it's finally reality. I stopped and asked one of the installation crews yesterday. He told me that the north half of the mountain (where I live) is already complete, just waiting for the feed cable to be strung up the mountain in about a month. To clarify, I said "So, are you telling me I can have Google fiber in about a month?" - "Yes." So, updated opinions - any Google users out there and how happy are you with it?

They never brought Google Fiber into our area after AT&T & Comcast saturated the area. Google is only found in big apartment complexes around here. I saw it in the google sales office in ATL and would have loved the Internet & TV combo package from Google and saved a ton of $$$. But, alas.

That's amazing, since this area, Monte Sano, already has AT&T and WOW fiber strung. Comcast is going with their "magic modem." Thing is, WOW and AT&T built their fiber bases out of pocket. Google's fiber is being strung by Huntsville Utilities and they were going to do it in any event. Google is just their initial customer. I doubt that Google would have come in on its own, without the city financing the network...

Still appealing for any information about what Google's TV offerings are, if anyone knows. They are completely opaque, until you are actually able to sign up, which is supposed to be soon, their site just says that plans vary by area...

You've may have seen something like this already but I would assume all of their locations have similar offering. Here's what I found on HSV:

Thanks for the research, Brett. I had found that before, but I couldn't relocate it. I'm sure it'll be similar here. It has approximately the same content we have with Comcast for $70. We're paying Comcast $200...
