Great Coaching Quotes

Confidence is contagious. So is lack of confidence.
Vince Lombardi

If it doesn't matter who wins or loses, then why do they keep score?
Vince Lombardi

If you are not fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiasm.
Vince Lombardi

If you can accept losing, you can't win.
Vince Lombardi

It's not whether you get knocked down, it's whether you get up.
Vince Lombardi

Once you learn to quit, it becomes a habit.
Vince Lombardi

Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.
Vince Lombardi

Practice does not make perfect. Only perfect practice makes perfect.
Vince Lombardi

Show me a good loser, and I'll show you a loser.
Vince Lombardi

Some of us will do our jobs well and some will not, but we will be judged by only one thing-the result.
Vince Lombardi

Some people try to find things in this game that don't exist but football is only two things - blocking and tackling.
Vince Lombardi

And the greatest of all by him.

I don't know if we are the greatest team or not. We haven't played Alabama.

"When you're kind of the ugly stepsister, you just go to the prom with whoever asks you." Larry Coker/Miami when asked if he had a preference of which bowl they played in.

"It's hard to be full of yourself while puking." Bill Belichick/New England Patriots about training camp.

Two of my all time favorites:

"When all is said and done more is usually said than done." Lou Holtz

"We didn't do diddly poo." Jim Mora - To my knowledge this is the only time an NFL coach has ever used the phrase "diddly poo" in a post game rant.

Coaching is a tough business. If you're not a Bear Bryant or a Joe Paterno, you know getting fired is just part of it. But getting fired by your alma mater, and replaced by Bill Curry, is kind of like having your wife run off with Don Knotts.

Pepper Rogers

I lived in Memphis for years and would see Pepper out and about from time to time. Every time I did, he was drunk, slurring, stumbling and obnoxious. A complete and utter disgrace. When I heard that Memphis had hired him to be their representative to lobby for them with NFL owners and execs in their efforts to obtain an expansion team, I knew they had NO shot.

Pepper Rogers may be the only person in the known universe I would pass over to hire Bill Curry...

Here's the rest of the Mora quote minus his overall profanity laced summary at the end where he talks about how his team played like, well, diddly poo.

"We couldn't do diddly-poo offensively. We couldn't make a first down. We couldn't run the ball, we didn't try to run the ball. We couldn't complete a pass. We couldn't stop the run. We sucked. Every time they got the ball, they went down and got points..." - Jim Mora

I think that sums it up

Cool, I've never heard that one ...Can anybody give the context of it?

Nevermind, google is my friend........."I don't know, we haven't played Alabama yet."-- Vince Lombardi -after being asked what it felt like to be the greatest football team in the world just after winning the '66 Super Bowl.

Gotta include one of my favorites from CPB.

Little things make the difference. Everyone is well prepared in the big things, but only the winners perfect the little things.
--Coach Paul Bryant
