"I am humbled and honored to be part of the best college football program in the country," said Cristobal. "The tremendous commitment from the University and our administration to our student-athletes, coaches, and support staff is unmatched and has been unwavering since day one. I am grateful to President Schill and Rob Mullens for all of their support and for entrusting our staff with the future of Oregon Football. We are just getting started, and I am fired up to relentlessly work and build upon the success so far. We are privileged to call Oregon home, and we love the sense of family and community here at Oregon. We will continue to work tirelessly to elevate the Oregon football program to the next level, and we can't wait to see the best fans in the nation back in Autzen Stadium next fall. Go Ducks!"

I’m really beginning to think somebody on the bot heard it from third and 4th party sources that Mario was definitely interested in Auburn and convinced a bunch of rich maroons to fire Gus without a viable 2nd and 3rd option. The trouble is never firing a coach it’s replacing him with a clear upgrade.

I don't really believe this. I simply can't bring myself to believe this. However...

I'm hearing that the plan was to fire Gus with enough time to put out a few feelers to see if they could land a Hail-Mary, home-run name in time for the early signing day, knowing that the most likely scenario was promoting Steele to head coach. However, the lack of support from the fanbase for Steele has the PTB back-peddling. But the initial plan, the intention, was to most likely promote Steele...

In unrelated news.

Who thinks Jimmy Sexton parlayed Auburn overtures into a new contract?
Hahahaha, who doesn't think that? He does it every year, and these folks keep lining up to literally give money away. I suppose they think it's just the price of doing business. I think some of these "big boys" just like to show that "Money don't matter as long as I get what I want!" Therefore, Sexton says, "You are correct, sir, but let's put it in a contract just to make sure!" ;) Three years and 20 million dollars later you have to pay a guy another 10 million just to leave. It's mind boggling.

If they wanted to keep Steele, why wouldn't they just keep Gus and save 20 million bucks and keep Steele as the DC? I keep thinking that there is no way that they fired Gus just to hire Steele because no one could be that stupid. However, I've seen too many stupid people making too many stupid decisions to believe that it couldn't happen. I keep thinking that AU will announce on Saturday (This way they can steal a little of the SECCG thunder.) that they have hired a coach that will cause a few ripples- Napier or the Iowa St. dude or Freeze for example. We shall see. They have kept people talking about them this week, and they say there's no such thing as bad publicity, but if they hire Steele, that wouldn't even cause a ripple in a tiny pond.

Bama is 10-0 and looking primed to win another NC while Aubrun just paid $21m to the best HC they've had in the last 20 years to not coach and is struggling to find his replacement...

I don't care what you say, 2020 is awesome. :ROFLMAO:
Yeah it also forced ND to temporarily join a conference as well. Unfortunately I don’t know who to cheer for between the Catholics vs Karens matchup

My Barner co-worker - who happens to be an alum and also heard it from another source - is, I believe, about a hair's breadth away from leaving work early or else just starting to drink at his desk.

He's randomly muttering and/or injecting into conversations the phrase, "effing Auburn!", over and over.

I almost feel sorry for him. :)
