Happy Mardi Gras ...

I had completely forgot about it. Back in the day, my tomorrow would feature a really bad hangover.

Fond memories of driving back to Jackson, MS after Fat Tuesday with a gaping hole in my car's back window, freezing to death with my heat on high. I had parked on the street, and my buddy had left his camera bag in the car. It was gone when we got back, leaving a huge mess of broken glass.

Also, I zipped up my wallet in my ski jacket. Trying to nudge thru crowds, I could fee pickpockets trying to snatch my wallet.

I have Acadian ancestors, but not Cajun ancestors.
Emanuel le Borgne and Alexandre Le Borgne de Belle-Isle were French Royal governors of Acadia, Alex was deposed by the Brits. His ancestor, Barnabas de Belle-Isle was kicked out of Acadia and sent to Virginia.
I do enjoy gumbo, crawfish etouffée, and I like listening to Coach Orgeron speak, even if no one can understand him.

We have a local celebration every year on Flagler Avenue - the main street of our barrier island. Floats, music, beads, adult beverages, etc.....

I'll be watching Gator basketball in the comfort of my living room. :)

I am celebrating with Virginia gentility: Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner at the Anglican Church.

No beads there, I imagine.
our episcopal church does a big shrove tuesday party (we aren't attending this year). plenty of beads, but they hand them out at the door and don't require things to be shown before they are thrown

This church was a little more sedate than even that. This is a beautiful old Anglican church on the battlefield of Port Republic. The average age was probably at least 60.
Nice folks. Good pancakes.
