Well Gus didnāt want to stay and was well on his way to Arkansas in 2017 after the Iron Bowl but the Auburn President went rogue and paid him an amount that he couldnāt refuse. Parties in power going rogue is what typically happens at Auburn. Whether it be the Athletic Department, Administration, or boosters there is always a constant fight for controlIf they fire him without cause I believe it is around 15 million Harsin is owed. Add that onto the 21 million that Gus stole from the program and that gets very expensive very quickly. Not to mention all the contracts with assistant coaches. Auburn boosters are going to be broke.
I am sure Auburn will try to fire with cause and lawyers will be involved.
One reporter on Finebaum yesterday (I believe with Al.com) said firing Harsin without cause would bring the total cost of paying off Gus and his staff and then Harsin and his guys and their contracts in the $80 million or more range. If they fire him without cause I believe it is around 15 million Harsin is owed. That actually depends. Itās why the promote from within and hiring Steele makes a ton more sense than hiring Freeze. One reporter on Finebaum yesterday (I believe with Al.com) said firing Harsin without cause would bring the total cost of paying off Gus and his staff and then Harsin and his guys and their contracts in the $80 million or more range.
80 million dollars that could have been spent on facilities and other such needs. Not to mention the millions of dollars they will need for a new coach and staff. Hiring and firing is a pain and can quickly turn a program into a downward spiral (happy its auburn lol). I get that programs always want more, but it is not hard to go from a 8-4 Fulmer record to years of misery and lost money. One reporter on Finebaum yesterday (I believe with Al.com) said firing Harsin without cause would bring the total cost of paying off Gus and his staff and then Harsin and his guys and their contracts in the $80 million or more range.
Bout to get real expensive down there
"Look at the different factions, how fragmented the place has been," a longtime Auburn source said. "I look at it all and wonder what coach Dye would think, how a place with so many people who love Auburn could keep screwing it up."
Or Auburnt could filch the nomadic coaching nimrod RichRod away from Jax as cow college caretaker coach and let Grass go back to his greener Calhoun County pasture...Yup or former Jacksonville St HC John Grass.. He's a really good HC & I imagine they could get him at a discount price..![]()
Worse comes to worst, they still got "Housel of Curds" available to step in as emeritus "Yes, Your Lowdership" or "Yes, Your Yellafellaship" butler, er, bungler down there...Well Gus didnāt want to stay and was well on his way to Arkansas in 2017 after the Iron Bowl but the Auburn President went rogue and paid him an amount that he couldnāt refuse. Yep, Dye was part of the problem until he past away. Heās was just a mouth piece for the wealthy boosters. If Dye had live a little longer I doubt Harsin is even hired and the booster would have gotten who they wanted, Steele. This says it all. Sometimes the best way to love someone, or something, is to step back and let those who can objectively look at a situation do the job they are hired to do. Also, their fascination with Dye and "Auburn men" is as bad as ours was with Bryant and "Bear's boys". I hope that post-Saban does not hold the same for us.

How did things get so bad at Auburn? What to know about the program's and Bryan Harsin's future
Everything you need to know about Auburn football's future, and whether Bryan Harsin will be part of it.www.espn.com
It was Josh Talty of Al.com and his colleague Tom Greene (Auburn Beat Writer) that were throwing around those numbers. Talty actually said ā$100 millionā. He credited Green for calculating those numbers. That actually depends. Itās why the promote from within and hiring Steele makes a ton more sense than hiring Freeze.
Goes from DC at Auburn to DC/interim HC in 2020 when they can Gus, then to ādefensive assistantā at Tennessee for Pruitt in 2021 and gets the āinterim head coachā position there when Pruitt gets caught up in the McDonaldās Golden Arches recruiting scandal, and then sips mimosas for a few months after they hire Huepel. Then he takes the DC job at Maryland for Locks for about 15 minutes before bolting to Miami to work for Cristabol. So if they fire Harsin and go and hire Steele, that would be Steeleās third job in 2 weeksā¦..
