My point is that Auburn rather lose to Alabama and Georgia than be made fun of by both for hiring a known escort service man to beat them. Auburn is more concerned by winning the victim hood argument than winning on football field. Just name every coach they have hired since Shug stepped down and tell me how many were seen as home run hires from the outset. With the exception of Gus and perhaps Dye (I would have to ask @selmaborntidefan on this one) no Auburn coach was seen as a massive upgrade from their predecessor on day 1 or really seen as a potential problem for Alabama or Georgia. They have been in a large part boring fit hires.
I only disagree on one point - given a choice between:
a) beating Alabama and UGA with a guy who years ago consulted escort services
b) a guy going 8-4 (their usual) and losing both but being a good guy

they're going to pick the sleaze ball every time.

As a reminder: these folks called Bobby Petrino only about eight months after his Evel Knievel act when they hired Malzahn. Now I always figured Gus was going to get the call anyway - but why would you even TALK to Bobby Petrino in 2012?

Even after the Eric Ramsey “keep it down home cuz” scandal, Dye never lost his power or influence. Dye, according to most Auburn folks, was a great Auburn man that was a victim of selective prosecution by the NZAA, simply getting caught at what everyone in college football was doing. And he had a hand in every subsequent hiring (and firing) afterwards. Many in that situation would have worn a scarlet letter. To the contrary, he was held as a martyr for the program.

If the hiring of Bruce Pearl while under a show cause gives any indication, unless there is some kind of roadblock (conference, an influential booster says “no”, BOT, etc), “morals” won’t prevent them from hiring Freeze.

But here is the thing…. When they pull the trigger on football who is their pick?

Entering Auburn how many of these guys had baggage, or were already known sleezeballs?

-Barfield
- Dye
-Bowden
-Tubberville
-Chizik
- Gus
- Harsin

I see people using Pearl as an example. But it’s still a different sport. Football is STILL the money maker at Auburn and they still make picks that are off the reservation. I mean we seriously saw them pick between Steele and Harsin last year with no interviews with Freeze or Kiffin. Both are infinitely better than the former as coaches. I get that there are few coaching searches in which you can pencil in the name right away like Frost to Nebraska or Harbaugh to Michigan, but usually you can get a list of 10 people and be right. Vegas last year was as blindsided as everyone in the country last year with the Harsin pick.

They may end up hiring Freeze but again it will be the most un Auburn thing to do in terms of football hires. They usually pick someone that they can control or someone that gets along with the good ole boys, Hugh Freeze doesn’t really fall into either category. Another thing with Freeze is that on top of what Auburn is going to have to pay Harsin they are going to have to pay Jerry Fallwell along with Freeze.

Whoever Auburn hires is going to be a stupid hire that much is for certain.

That could have been said (and probably was) before they hired Pearl...
Again two different sports, and they had a chance to hire him last year but didn’t even interview him.

The Pearl hire seems more of a hire to get people in a new arena and to own the state in basketball while Alabama was goofing up with coaches and an outdated arena. Pearl was a good investment for them in the NCAA’s most corrupt sport. There is no football coach they can hire that will change the power dynamic between Auburn and Alabama.

Also Pearl was hired in 2014…. Harsin was hired in 2021.

That BoB is on this list is pleasing

I heard Barfield took labels off mattresses - criminal

No way I see Kiffin going to Auburn. Kiffin is too full of Alabama (even to this day) to coach at the Barn. He has CNS on a pedestal and rightfully so.

Plus, why would he want to subject himself to that circus in Lee County when he's got it pretty good at OM? And, if he continues to do well there, he'll land somewhere much better than Auburn anyway.

Freeze is club house leader if the sec office allows it, from all understanding the sec looks down on head coaches changing to school's inside the conference at least this administration does so Kiffin is out, Bob will still be oc for Bama!

It doesn't matter that it is two different sports. We are talking about this particular athletic program as a whole.

Maybe they didn't have the green light from Sankey a year ago. Also, after this fiasco, they would be even more willing to do something like this than they were previously. You simply can't put the words "Ethics" and "awbern in the same sentence unless it is preceded by "Lack of"...just sayin'.

Sankey has no control over who hires Freeze and hasn’t had that ability for several years. If a SEC team wants him then they could have him. The reason we didn’t get Freeze was because of Byrne not Sankey.

Auburn didn’t even interview Kiffin last year….

Yeah, they either knew there was no chance to get him (Kiffen) or incredibly stupid...or a combination of both.

I would have hated it if they had pursued and gotten Kiffin.
