Has anyone else heard that Tim Tebow has already privately commit to Bama? And that, that is the reason we haven't offered any scholarships to any other QB's yet? (i.e. Chris Smelley and Earl Alexander)

I haven't heard that and I for one have never understood the idea of a 'silent' verbal. What is the point of such a thing? Either you want to go to a school or you don't, right? Please someone help me understand why a silent verbal would be something a recruit would want to do.
 
I have an elephants-foot umbrella stand in the foyer by the front door that whispers that exact thing to me every time I walk past.

It has been an unreliable source in the past, though. :conf2:

So he could keep doing vists maybe. So the other coaches wouldn't try and talk him out of it. Nothing major but that's 2 reasons I came up with.

If a kid still wants to take visits to other schools, that tells me that he hasn't made up his mind.
 
With highly-recruited prospects...

you sometimes take what you can get. I guess a "silent verbal" is better than none at all...

Maybe, maybe not. The kid may want to take the visits to have fun/get attention. Remember they are 17-18 yrs old.

Alabama has offered Earl Alexander. They offered him either before or about the same time they offered Tebow. The question with Alexander, no matter where he goes, is whether he'll stay at QB or move to WR a la Kelley Washington at UT several years ago.

Shula was reported to have been at Smelley's game last week and eventually, I think he'll get a UA offer.

I've heard Tebow was a private commit to UA, to Florida, to Georgia and was seriously considering Michigan. Pick the rumor you like best, is all I can say. I personally would be surprised if he knows for sure where he wants to go at the moment.

The "private commitment to UA" rumor really took off after his high school coach went on talk radio prior to the Hoover game. His coach is said to be a UA fan, plus his coach was no doubt trying to curry favor among some of the fans that would be at the game, plus pump up guys like Charlie Kirschman and Hunter Haynes.
 
just to remind you that all sorts of rumors are flying and so far none have much if any credibility. As soon as something is credible, odds are a mod or admin will chime in.

Let's not become rumor-mongers. :)

I was just wondering because I heard this from someone I consider a reliable source for Tide football, so I thought there may have been something to it just wanted to get the thoughts of others. I am not saying it is or isn't true just thought someone else may be able to shed some light on the topic.
 
Some recruits will "silently verbal" when they don't want the media attention to distract from their H.S. season. Call it honorable, call it cheesy, its legitimate in their minds.

There was mention yesterday about Rev. Tebow involved in a ruccus and getting kicked out of the stadium during the UF/UT game. The rumor was started by a caller to a radio sports talk show. The radio host himself said that, as far as he knew, the rumor was unsubstantiated.

No, but I have heard the one that Tebow is the secret love child of Joe Namath and Suzy Kolber . . .

I wasn't calling you out or anything like that, I was just restating our site policy. We have been pretty good as far as limiting our rumors, and the recruiting rumors are going to get mentioned and are generally harmless and widespread and unpredictable- much like recruiting itself. When we start talking about parents, etc, getting kicked out- in other words- completely unsubstantiated rumors- we need to put a lock on it.
