Question: Has society actually decayed or are we just more aware of it?

Conflict resolution, internally and externally has led to the school violence. Kids are not prepared to deal with the bullying of today, and as kids we wouldn’t have been either. Bullying now is 24/7 psychological warfare due to cell phones and social media, not to mention potential physical violence. Imagine getting beat up at school (some of us don’t have to), only to come home and see it splattered all over the three o’clock cartoons, or whatever you considered entertainment at whatever age it happened. Then imagine people you don’t even know only recognize you as the kid who got beat up on that video they saw on social media. It’s enough to break even the staunchest of minds.

We as leaders and role models of children have let them down when it comes to this area. Call that moral decay if you want.

Would you say that school shootings are up due to a 24/7 news cycle and maybe a copycat factor or something else?
Maybe. But the rate of serial killers getting a high body count is also down because the advance of investigative technology . So mass shooters may have replaced them.

While yes my initial intent was the moral decay as it relates to school shootings, I expected some thread drift into other discussions on the subject of moral decay as it relates to society as a whole.
the only thing separating moral decay from oral decay is one little m.

I think reactions, good and bad, have gotten more extreme. Seems like the smallest slight, intentional or not, provokes the moral outrage of a lifetime.

A simple difference of perspective, no matter how diplomatically phrased, is grounds for mortal offense. The smallest victory is worthy of both a trophy and a parade.

Tons of hyperbole, as if nobody has ever before experienced the feelings that we ourselves are experiencing at the moment.

It’s as if a significant portion of the population, across all age groups, has adopted the mentality of a 16-year-old with their first love, first broken heart, first loss of a friend, etc.

And for reasons only God knows, they feel compelled to share all that with the world, and take validation from how many people they’ve never met agree with them.

Yeah, that’s different.

I think society is dumber, or maybe back in the day society knew they were ignorant and kept their uninformed opinions to themselves. We now have a 24/7 puke funnel spouting hot takes about words and concepts that the deliverer doesn't understand, and the receiver is either too lazy or too stupid to parse. Twitter is the worst.
