The reason that I ask is that I am going to the Miss State -Vandy game thi weekend and was taking my camera. I was told that camera were banned at Vanderbilt Stadium.
I called their ticket office and they said that it was not a Vanderbilt rule but the SEC has banned all cameras from all 12 SEC stadiums.
Does anyone have a link or page that says the SEC has banned camera for fans?

This is the clause they are invoking:

"No Bearer may produce or disseminate (or aid in producing or disseminating) any material or information about the Event, including, but not limited to, any account, description, picture, audio, reproduction, or other information concerning the Event, other than in speech that cannot be restricted under the First Amendment, in any form."

Now it would be extremely hard to limit the use of point and click cameras, however, they would target you if you have a nice DSLR camera with a zoom lens on it.

I agree that they seem to ignore little compact camera, or they always have mine, even when I know they've seen it. A zoom lens would probably be pushing it...

Kind of takes the fun out of owning a camera, though. I like to take pictures at ball games, and I just recently got a nice DSLR with a zoom (thanks to my sweet wife) for my birthday. That's a bummer.

Right after 9-11, they put out notice that they were cracking down on all cameras, along with water bottles, etc. That year, I didn't take in any kind of camera. I did notice that there was a small table behind the guys taking up tickets which had some really nice-looking SLRs sitting on it. There was no security for them, nor did I see any tag or form of identification, so I guess it was just honor system to reclaim them. It would be tough, walking off and leaving that kind of equipment behind...

With the rise of people owning very nice, near professional quality DSLR's and zoom lenses, they don't want people going out and redistributing photos from the games/selling them/etc.

I didn't take my dSLR to the game last Saturday, but at the student entrance I noticed it said on the banner that you could bring cameras with lenses less than 6 inches long

I'm gonna test this out tomorrow with my 70-300mm telephoto and see what happens

I had to sneak a 70-300mm in when I still sat in the student section. The officers will look very closely at it if they suspect a long lens. Other parts of the stadium have been lax, but the student section gates are usually pretty watchful for it.

The camera rules in Tiger Stadium are:

Policy: Cameras are permitted in Tiger Stadium for both fans and working news media. All photos taken in Tiger Stadium must be for editorial or personal use only and may not be used for advertising, promotions or other trade purposes, or any other commercial or promotional endeavor, without the permission of LSU. Contact the LSU Office of Finance and Administrative Services at (225) 578-3386 with any questions.

Reason: The sale of images with current student-athletes is against NCAA rules and can risk the eligibility of LSU student-athletes. Additionally, any commercial use of photos of Tiger Stadium, campus landmarks or identifiable campus elements is prohibited without the prior written approval of the University.

Section marshals don't permit really long telephoto lenses in the stands because they are a hazard to other in close proximity. But as long as a camera is no bigger than a pair of binoculars, nobody really cares.

I bought my wife a Cannon elph a few months ago and it has an awesome zoom. I was sitting out in the upper bleachers at Yankee Stadium and got a couple real nice close ups of the batters at home plate.

I do not understand why the sale of photos of current student-athletes would ever endanger their eligibility. I'm not saying it should be allowed, but how can you punish the student-athlete who literally had nothing to do with it?

The NCAA is against anyone making money off of the individual athlete outside of its member institutes.

It's also against the rules to sneak in liquor, we've all seen how well that's worked out :D Bring your camera, it's one of those rules they made but don't really enforce. They have too many other things to worry about besides who's taking pictures.

It can become a very serious problem when jo blow decides he's going to see the snap shot he got of Julio Jones.
