Re: Heisman finalists announced on 6pm Eastern (5pm Central) on Sportscenter ESPN2

I have to believe that someone leaked something for the odds to have shifted that much. Someone is betting heavily on Henry.
I suspect what makes Vegas so good is tons of insider connections...

I never understand how odds work. I am not into betting.

I don't bet but I'm fascinated with Vegas's accuracy.

These particular lines are how much you have to risk to win $100, so Henry at -1200 means you have to risk $1,200 to win $100 (if he wins you get your original bet back too, total of $1,300). IOW, he's expected to win, so you have to risk a lot to win a little.

Conversely, McCaffrey at +600 means you'd have to risk $16.67 (100/6) to win $100. This means you risk a little to win a lot - he's a long shot in Vegas's eyes.

These numbers mean Henry is a HEAVY favorite to win in Vegas. They're rarely far off, so at this point I'd be shocked if Henry doesn't win.

Oh...that makes sense. Thank you. :)

Call me paranoid...but I still believe there is a lot of "anti-SEC and especially anti-Bama" sentiment around the country among sportswriters.
Me too. I`ve got an uncomfortable feeling about this.

CM's game log with yards of total offense (2015 defensive rating in parenthesis)...

Northwestern (11) - 89
UCF (115) - 117
USC (70; first meeting) - 152
OSU (117) - 244
UA (114) - 167
UCLA (62) - 247
UW (28) - 221
WSU (93) - 133
UC (87) - 162
UO (116) - 189
UC (110) - 241
ND (38) - 113
USC (70; second meeting) - 312

DH's game log with yards of total offense...

UW (3) - 159
MTSU (57) - 96
UM (56) - 166
ULM (93) - 52
UGA (8) - 148
UA (72) - 95
TAMU (42) - 254
UT (46) - 143
LSU (25) - 210
MSU (58) - 204
AU (91) - 271
UF (6) - 189

Against CM's six toughest defensive opponents (average ranking of 46.5), CM averaged 189 total yards of offense - constituting 47.5 of his entire total offense production. Against DH's six toughest opponents (average ranking of 21.6), DH averaged 184 total yards of offense - constituting 52.9% of his entire total offense production. The average defensive ranking of CM's opponents this year was 79.3. The average defensive rankings of DH's opponents this year was 46.4.

For those that say "CM also was versatile enough to return kicks and catch passes", imagine what Henry could have produced if UA had featured him more in the passing game and/or allowed him to return kicks. Also, Henry was an every-down back for UA while CM was often pulled when Stanford was deep in the red zone. From what I can see, Henry faced opponents that were nearly twice as difficult as McCaffrey and put up just 300 yards less of offense. He also did MORE of his overall damage against those opponents. I don't know how an honest evaluator can make the claim that CM deserves the Heisman more than Henry.

Updated Heisman ESPN watch.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/heisman15/

So, up until this week, Henry had 9 first place votes. So, dude goes for 189 and a TD against a top-ranked Florida defense and now he has 3 first-place votes and even a 3rd and 4th place vote thrown in there. Can anybody please explain how that is even logical?

Bingo. Got to get them ratings up somehow. Advertising a runaway by an SEC player is a sure-fire way to guarantee no one outside the south will care/watch.

If it were me, I wouldn't be willing to lose all credibility for the sake of trying to get a few more viewers tuned in. I think any fan of Clemson, Stanford or Alabama will already be watching, in addition to fans of other schools.

Sorry, these guys will say or write anything for ratings. They know that the attention span of the average American is measured in seconds and whatever they say, right or wrong, will be forgotten by dinner time.

As I cited above, USC is #70 in all of America in total team defense... Florida is #6. CM doesn't even begin to sniff 200 total offensive yards against UF IMO. In fact, the most CM put up against any top 50 defense was 221 (89 and 113 in the other two games) while DH AVERAGED 184 with a tops of 254. Not even close to compare IMO.

Bovada has Henry at -1200 as well. Ingram was -350 in 2009, and they haven't missed a winner since.

Re: Heisman finalists announced on 6pm Eastern (5pm Central) on Sportscenter ESPN2

I wonder what it really would look like if CM would have gone through the same schedule as Henry. You would also have to look at Henry with CM's schedule. It wouldn't be close. But shoulda coulda woulda...

Here is the thing. When the lights are on and the game is close, we've seen time and time again Henry has carried a team almost the entire 4th on his back. McCaffrey not so much. Sometimes he is on the sideline because he isn't trusted with the ball in the goal line or the red zone? C'mon people.
