Dear Crimson: I was in the Memphis sports media for years, and a member of Bellevue. I took that picture. I can tell you, Adrian loved it. He told me it was the only picture with a celebrity that impressed his kids.

... thanks for the post

FWIW - i believe i heard dr. rogers once say that he played quarterback in high school - i can understand why he would love that photo

I think the close up view of Coach Bryant's eyes is what makes this picture priceless. This is a very intimate picture of him. You can tell that he had a hard life growing up, you don't see that look much these days. God Bless coach always.

Thanks for sharing this picture . Like Capstone , I am captured by Coach Bryant's eyes . My dad used to call them " gun slinger eyes ". I'll bet every line on Coaches face could tell a heck of a story . I loved Coach Bryant and will never forget him !

Earle glad you are ok. Hope you are feeling better.
It was caught in time - no heart attack and no heart damage. It was one of those conditions which can't be caught by stress tests or angiograms before they erupt. It's the cause of most sudden cardiac deaths without prior warnings or risk factors. I guess I was the benefactor of lucky coincidence - or maybe not... :D Maybe I was meant to hang around a while longer...

Whatever the case, glad you're still with us. As you mentioned earlier, that kind of close call does indeed change your outlook.

Just from the injuries of yours that I know about, I'm not sure there are many "youngsters" that can keep up with you.
LOL! Well, the underlying condition didn't slow me down. It was a sudden rupture of an outwardly bulging plaque, which doesn't show up with any presently known test. It was in the worst artery possible, but it didn't completely close off the artery, so I escaped with no damage. Sobering experience, though...

I stand corrected...in the book Faith of the Crimson Tide by Wayne Atchenson, this picture is in the book and here is the caption:
"Billy Graham and his evangelistic ministry has had a profound impact upon the Alabama family. On May 14-21, 1972, Billy Graham and his team held a Crusade in Birmingham at Legion Field. On the platform for one service was Mary Harmon Bryant, Coach Paul Bryant, Joe Namath, Coach Tom Landry, Mr. Graham, Scott Hunter, and Mike Kolen."
