That's always something I have been interested in but have never done.
What do you use? A specific kit or what?
I don't mean to hijack your thread - just curious.
If you're interested you should definitely give it a go - is quite simple to make a good tasting beer, and challenging to make a 'great' one.
The first time my friend and I tried we used a kit, something called Mr. Beer or the like. It was interesting but the result was just undrinkable. We then graduated to the better 'kit' provided by a local homebrew store here in NC. Not so much a packaged kit, but more like a grab bag of things we would need to truly make a quality beer. Since then we've added this and that to our toolset if you will. Like most hobbies, you can always find somethign new to buy.
We've brewed 6 batches (5 gallons per), each one getting progressively better. We now use all-grain recipes rather than extract and are becoming particular about the recipes, so-called 'efficiency', etc.
Last batch we brewed, which I'm still enjoying, is excellent. Is an American/Belgian Pale Ale named The 27 Points after Alabama's first half against Colorado. Slightly less bodied than a typical IPA but with similar hoppiness. I really enjoy it, as do friends who would have none of our earlier batches.
This weekend we'll be doing a Sierra Nevada IPA Clone recipe. Looking forward to that one
