like em? Lots of folks are pretty fanatical about what should or shouldn't be on them. My Dad thought it was sacrilege to put anything other than mustard and onions on them. I'm a lot more flexible though. I like pretty much everything except mayo and sweet relish, dill relish is OK.

How about the buns? Plain or toasted? I prefer them toasted, but I'm not fussy, I'm not gonna complain either way.

Boiled or grilled. Again, I like em either way, but I lean slightly to grilled. Like a little bit of char on them.

What do you wash them down with? Normally I'd say Coke, (Pepsi sux) but based on my one time at Pete's Famous, I'd have to say that Grapico is the ultimate belly-wash for hotdogs, pretty dang good with hamburgers too, definitely the best for hotdogs.

How do y'all like em?

Grilled Oscar Mayers or Boars Head franks. Grilled bun, mustard, chopped vidalia onion, coarsely chopped tomato, salt & pepper and a cold glass of milk in a frosted mug.

Bayoutider does not eat hot dogs, at least not very often. But of all the places on earth Chicago and New York are IMO the two places where a hot dog is a work of art.

The few occasions when I crave a hot dog at home I only buy Hebrew National, my son and I call them Jew Dogs. For some reason we feel that being blessed by a Rabbi makes them less disgusting. But just to be on the safe side, I don't think you can put too many things on a hot dog. I like them with lots of mustard, catsup, onions, sweet relish or chow chow, and sour kraut. Sometimes I will eat a chili dog, no cheese thank you but extra onions. And I seldom eat a hot dog alone, I have to have fries or at least some chips.

Hot dogs cooked at home are grilled never boiled. Hot dogs elsewhere, who knows, they may cook in the sun on a sheet of roofing tin for all I know

.

My favorite drink with a hot dog is root beer.

Instead of a hot dog I really prefer a brat, hot link or sausage on a bun.

A definite staple of my diet...

I prefer Bryan's smoked sausage hot-dogs. I used to boil them, but now I ALWAYS put them on a George Foreman grill. As for toppings, it's some combination of ketchup, BBQ sauce, tobasco sause, Sneaky Pete's sauce, garlic powder, and pepperocini(Spelling right?) pepper sauce.

The only time I'll eat kraut and mustard on a dog is at Bryant Denny. As much as I hate Legion Field, I will say the hot dogs they had were just awesome. The same cannot be said about Coleman for basketball games. Being a student, the first 100 in the gate get a free hot dog, drink, and chips. Needless to say, I NEVER miss that opportunity. The dogs, though, could be a lot better.

My favorite hot dog is what I call a "junkyard" dog:

hotdog, grilled or boiled is fine
sauerkraut
onions
ketchup
mustard
all on a fresh(not toasted) bun. Add chili and cheese for even a better flavor. These are great on game days....

Many years ago I worked at Hardee's while in HS and going to UA. The old one on 15th St. and also the one in Alberta. This was long before the complicated menu's in fast food joints today. We served a couple of sizes of hamburgers, fish sandwich, fries, and a wonderful fried apple pie. But the best thing in the shop was THE CHILI DOG. They were served on a steamed bun with onions, mustard and chili. They were great and I don't think a shift passed without me downing at least a couple. I've tried to duplicate them, but alas, I can't find the right chili. Maybe one day.....

On the rare occasion I have one at home, I like to split it, pan fry it with a little butter(real)with some vidalias. Warm bun with mustard on one side, a little mayo on the other, grated cheese, the frank, dill cubes, and then crowned with the onions, in that order. I'm not one to mix many more flavors than that on a weiner. Else it winds up being an aerobic exercise for my taste buds trying to sort it all out.

BallPark franks.... all beef, or so they say lol... with all the fixins... mustard, onion,ketchup... except maybe chilli... that was meant for a bowl... toasted bun. But prefer Polish Sausages... and like Tommy said, with alittle char...

Well I'll eat 'em grilled or boiled anything but all I want on it is dill pickle relish all over it, nothin but dill pickle relish, or chili and mustard and cheese, but never mix the two!!!

Jew Dogs??

1. Smothered in mustard and sweet relish

2. Chili and onions and cheese. Double bypass for dessert. But that's OK - on the rare occasion I have one of these delights I try not to think about all the "parts" that's in the dog!

Bayou, when I saw your referring Hebrew National Hot Dogs as "Jew Dogs", I about fell out of my chair. In our house, we LOVE Hebrew National and we too refer to them as "Jew Dogs".

We like them grilled but will eat them boiled. It's gotta have mustard, onions, jalapenos, cheese, chili and cole slaw on a bun. They're massive but very good.

Hebrew National are the best, hands down. All others pale in comparison. Granted, they're a litte more expensive but well worth it in terms of taste. If anyone hasn't tried them, I HIGHLY recommend them.

A boiled hot dog is simply not good in my opinion, boiling a hot dog boils the flavor right of it (only one place I will eat a boiled hot dog), next time try and notice the difference if you have not already.

And a microwaved hot dog and bun, I've seen my dog chew his rubber toy better than I've been able to chew a microwaved hot dog, especially the bun.

Grilled or pan fried is the best IMO.

Chris' hot dogs in downtown Montgomery are about the only boiled hot dogs I will eat, sauce is amazing.

Most of the GOOD Hot Dogs I have had, (I can't believe I used the words good and hot dog in the same sentance)

have been either grilled or steamed.

I prefer it come from Chris' on Dexter Ave. in Montgomery. I'll drive 2 hrs out of my way for one.

Or...a sausage dog grilled, then put on the bun. Add "hot" pimento cheese and broil in the oven 2 minutes until brown on top. Slap your Mama and run. Tastes great.
