Houston Nutt gets a Raise!!

:eek2:Simply amazing . You couldn't sell this circus in Hollywood . What's next ?:conf2:?

Could have been based on this years record, as in a performance bonus. Coach Shula had that kind of deal when he was given the raise after a 10-2, but then you know what happened after this last year. So a raise and even a contract extention in the deal doesn't mean they wouldn't (or aren't planning to) can him.

:biga2:

If Broyles does in fact retire then it could get dicey since Broyles has been in Nutt's corner since day 1. If you really think about it, could Arkansas really do better than Nutt. Fayetteville ain't much to write home about and historically, with the exception of a few very good years, Arkansas is pretty much a middle of the road kind of team. They, along with Texas, were always at the top of the old SWC, but have never been a real contender in the SEC. I do think Nutt is a pretty good coach, he does get a lot out of a little. I feel sure this raise had something to do with winning the SEC West, although their wheels came off toward the end of the season.

Nutt, who was named the Southeastern Conference's coach of the year after going 10-4 this past season, ranks in the bottom half among the league's coaches in annual pay. He receives a salary of $329,644 and another $720,000 in other income for a total of $1,049,644.

I wouldn't pay this yutz a dollar a year to manage a port-a-potty...

The only sticking point was that Nutt had not yet decided on whether he wanted the additional money now or when he retires.

I would almost wager that this will be deferred, but structured to be part of a buyout. An inevitable buyout?

His raise was only 20K per year. It was symbolic and nothing else. Really it was a show of how little support he has these days. Kind of like leaving a waiter a 1 cent tip.

With Broyles gone next year, his demise is inevitable.

Thank goodness......

I think you are right. Not that I wish for him to be gone. He sometimes throws a monkey wrench into aubbies season, and if we have a quality team WITH GOOD COACHING we usually beat Nutt....so i say keep him.

:BigA:

I think ALL those who got a raise should sent a thank you note to Coach Saban for him helping them get that raise, don't you? lol

After all, if Coach had not come to Bama with his wages being as they are, I don't think Coach Rod and all the others would have gotten zilch, do you?

Roll Tide Roll Coach Saban!!:biga:

As far as raises and extentions go, just remember...

Coach Mike Shula got one a little over a year ago.

If Nutt has a losing year, and with a new AD, I bet that raise and/or contract extension will become meaningless.

I have a feeling that Nutt's raise and retention were the price Broyles demanded for his own retirement. Deals like this are made all the time. Frank likes Ole Houston the Soap Opera King and did him this last favor. The board wanted to get rid of Broyles (and eventually Nutt), so they gave in on this point. What will really thicken the plot is if Nutt rips off another 10-2 season, making it extremely difficult to can him in 2008.:cool2:

Slightly off topic, but looking at the bottom of that article they had a listing of the SEC coaches salaries broken down by school salary, other income, and total income of each coach. Croom and Orgeron seemed to stick out as opposite ends of a spectrum. Croom makes 190K in school salary and 750K in other income while Orgeron makes 900K school and 5K other.

Curious if anyone has any insight into whether the ratios of where they're drawing the bulk of their salary says anything about the state or financial philosophies of the programs or is it an indicator of anything at all?
