I am already hearing the hype. USC is on top of almost every early 2007 preseason poll that I have seen. The question is do they deserve that? I think that their defense will be stellar, but I am not sold on their offense. I think that this year, John David Booty was a mediocore quarterback in a highly talented offense. Now they are losing some of their key WRs in Smith and Jarrett. I think that they will not be able to replace them. Also, the Pac 10 is catching up to them. See UCLA and Oregon St. I think that USC is definitely a solid 2 loss team, but I just don't see them going undefeated next year.

I'm so sick of USC. Once again they're on top of every preseason poll I have seen. Pete Carroll has made a real machine out of that program. They have some great recruits coming in.

RTR forever!

UCLA exploited them and I think that others will figure it out and they will be over hyped. They will still be great though.

USC will be a dominant and national championship potential team for a while. Their recruiting is top 3 in the nation.

They have built in recruiting for landing top commits even if they never leave the state a la Texas and the 3 big FL schools. They are simply loaded and are not losing that many players from a very good team this year. Add in the fact, as others mentioned, that they play in the PAC-10 and they will likely go undefeated. Not sure of their OOC schedule, except obviously ND.

According to rivals.com they have the #5 recruiting class this year. Check your stats before you post.

My bad, but recruiting is not over this year, so that is illegitament. I was claiming that from last year and the years past.

Southern Cal will probably be in the game since they have such a weak schedule. If they were in the SEC they'd probably have 2 losses next year but I imagine they'll either go 12-0 or 11-1 and either will be good enough to get into the title game.

Out of conference USC (not the real one) plays Idaho, Nebraska and Notre Dame out of conference. Nebraska and Notre Dame will both falter next year and Idaho stinks. They'll be in it, no doubt.

Time to tap into my USC contacts...

I know off of the top my head that USC only loses one starter on an already stout defense. They had a rough middle of the season but after the Oregon State game, they became unstoppable. They still have the best LB corp in the nation and will probably continue to run a hybrid 3-4 to exploit that talent.

On offense, they lose Ryan Kalil (4-yr starter at center), Dwayne Jarrett, Chris McFoy, and Steve Smith (all very good receivers). Fred Davis is probably going to come back (he's a very athletic TE) and Chauncey Washington will petition for a 6th-yr due to medical hardship. He came to USC at the same time Reggie Bush and LenDale White showed up on campus and was actually considered to be better than both of them. However, a couple knee injuries and academic ineligibilty set him back until this past season, where he played some but was hampered by a knee injury.

They return John David Booty at QB and a very good backup in Mark Sanchez. Both of these guys were th #1 HS QBs nationally of their respective recruting classes. At RB, they have a lot of talent at running back that could be even better if Joe McKnight were to commit to them (I think he's going to LSU).

They have a good crop of receivers to take over the void left by Jarrett and Smith but they're young. Nevertheless, a lot of the true freshmen at receiver got a lot reps this fall and obviously will continue to get more in the spring.

Simply put, USC is absolutely loaded for another national championship run. Maybe Alabama will just have an absolutely special season and meet them in the Sugar Bowl to produce possibly the most tradition-laden championship game in recent memory! But I'm not holding my breath for that...

I think Nebraska can be a tough game because it is at Lincoln this year. USC is trying almost anything to get out of the Idaho game but there hasn't been any luck so far. Notre Dame may suck, but the national media will always consider them to be dangerous simply b/c of the name.

BTW, Pete Carroll is undefeated against SEC teams.

they also only have 14 commits to this point, everyone above them has at least 22. their talent more than makes up for any bad play call or game management mistake their coaching staff may make.

I think they will be very good. They lose Jarrett and Smith which will obviously be a big blow, but they do have very good talent lined up behind those guys at WR. I look for Patrick Turner to step up and become their next start WR (he has a ton of potential not to mention he's 6'5" 225+). They also have a stud recruit from last year waiting in wings in Vidal Hazelton. Their running game should be even better this year, and they bring back nearly their entire defense. I think they'll definitely be in the mix.

I think they will be good, not the best though...They are starting to bring top recruiting classes yearly, remember they were were farely insignificant during the 90's before Carroll got there. Also, Texas has long had a reputation for bringing in top recruits with only one national championship to show for it. I think that what happened to Miami and Oklahoma- both were starting to dominate year in and year out- but both have somewhat declined, especially Miami. It takes special players and timing to dominate nowadays. Leinart and Bush and White at USC, Dorsey and Shockey and their Defense at Miami, White and Griffin and their Defense at Oklahoma, and then Young at Texas. Solid recruiting classes don't garuntee anything, or else texas would be swimming in trophies.

Timing I think is the biggest factor, I don't think that USC could have beaten any of those Miami teams, IMO. Or what if USC had had to play LSU that first year, if LSU had beaten them who knows where either school goes from there.
