How old is the Alabama script A? We had a discussion today about which one is older Alabama’s or Atlanta Brave’s. I know they are slightly different but whose was first?
If you research it, you will find pics of Coach Bryant wearing a script A cap before the Braves were even in Atlanta.

So, we know that the Alabama scripthas been around from the beginning of Coach Bryant's era.![]()
So the next question:
When did it become the main logo for us versus the elephants used in the past?
This site shows it as being used from 2002 on, but I'm not sure where they got that information.

Wikipedia notes that in B-DS the script A was introduced into the field in 2004. Again, no citation to back that up.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the script A originated at UA with Tilden Campbell's baseball teams in the 1930s and 40s.
And I believe Coach Bryant's cap pictured above is from the Baseball Squad.
There is nothing wrong about the "block A with the elephant stepping through it" Those of enjoying '78 and '79 NCs think they are pretty cool.

LOL, they need to do more research - image on page one shows CPB wearing a cap with the logo from '58...
I grew up on the logo in the late 90s, why don't we use this one anymore?
Gotta old hat my granddad used to wear with the Elephant stepping through the A, I still wear it till this day.Because it was awful. It's what we had when I was there, and I hated it. I much prefer the older and newer options. The script A is my favorite, though. Like our uniforms, it is classic and easy to identify. More than perhaps any other school, Alabama is about tradition. The late 90's logo felt like Alabama was trying to be "cool" and "modern." Alabama doesn't need to be modern to be cool.
