Question: How will the Barn do this year?

I'll go with 6-6

wins against

Wash State, Ark State, Western Carolina, FAU, and then 2 wins out of these games MSU, Ark, TN

With both Arky and TN breaking in new coaches and the cupboards pretty bare I wouldn't be surprised to see the Barn win both of those games

I agree. Last year was perfect because they won all the non-conference games and lost all the conference games. 3-9 is my goal each year for the goobers.

If you remember Ellis Johnson's defense held Mark Ingram to 245 yards rushing in 2009. While he may turn out to be an improvement over Roof and Van Gorder he is no top caliber SEC DC.

We still didn't score that much in that game. Also the next year they pretty much humiliated our offense. I'm not sure why there is so much hate for him all of his defenses at USC were pretty solid. I don't see how a guy has been a coordinator in the league for like 20 years and people think he isn't quality.

I think they lose to Wash St and when they do, the wheels come off. They've had some decent recruiting classes but they've had a lot of attrition too. Ellis Joihnson may be a good coordinator but, as Coach Bryant was wont to say - you can't make chicken salad without chickens. Malzahn's offense seems like a joke to me - more suited to high school (maybe even pee-wee.) Looks about like a pick-up game and they're drawing plays in the dirt.

Ole Miss, Miss St, and Arkansas may or not be good, but their cupboards are not bare personnel-wise like auburn's. Tennessee is probably down on talent, but probably not to the degree that auburn is.

I expect Nick Marshall to be the QB and if he is, I expect defenses to feast on him. He threw 20 INTs against 18 TDs at Garden City CC so I doubt that many SEC defenses will fear the passing game very much. They don't have the horses to make defenses respect the running game either - Malzahn's gimmicky offense notwithstanding.

So, I think they'll lose to WSU and go 1-3 OOC then maybe beat Tennessee to go 1-7 in the SEC.

Any rebound from last years defense would be great for them. Do you expect them to rebound a lot though?

they were so bad on defense last season. they will rebound a ton on that side of the ball..not saying they will be top 10 or anything but they wont be anywhere near the bottom.

How is the Barn's secondary?! If it isn't good, WSU may eat them up.

Washington State has Leach. I understand that. But they have been one of if not the weakest pac 12 team the last few years. They have been awful to put it kindly. on top of that they lost their best offensive player IMO to the NFL last season in maquis wilson.

every coordinator has bad games against special players. also, consider the lack of talent for years at South Carolina yet he was still able to put together some impressive team defensive stats. That defense had a lot to do with our loss to them. i'm not saying he's the greatest but he is far from chopped liver. hard for the numbers to lie playing in the toughest conference in college football

We had a thread like this last year so I thought I'd start one for this season to get an idea of how we think they'll do this year. While we'd love for them to go 0-12, please give an honest assessment of how you think they'll finish up.

Here is their schedule.....

8/31 Washington State
9/7 Arkansas State
9/14 Mississippi State
9/21 @LSU
10/5 Ole Miss
10/12 Western Carolina
10/19 @Texas A&M
10/26 Florida Atlantic
11/2 @Arkansas
11/9 @Tennessee
11/16 Georgia
11/30 Alabama

Given Auburn's overall talent level, there is only 1 guaranteed win on that whole schedule - WCU. Next up is FAU but that game wont be guaranteed because it will be right after they get completely drilled in College Station. They wont win road games at ARK and UT. Against all the other teams, it is plausible (probable for most) that Auburn simply wont be able to hang.

Worst case: 2 wins
Best case: 4 wins

Depending on the severity of the loss at LSU, this team will likely have thrown in the towel by the end of September...

I thought Phil Steele had lost his mind when he put USC at # 6 this year. Then I looked at his Most Improved Team list, and I am still scratching my head. He is very reluctant to list a team that he doesn't think will be Bowl eligible no matter how great the improvement. He has *u, ut, MO, and Ark from the SEC on the 2013 list. With the exception of Ark, I just don't see it. Certainly not for *u. If Ark and ut are going to be MIT's then *u is not going to win on the road against either of them. Beating one of those is their only hope of winning 6 games.

That was Leach's first year. This game is going to be an interesting one. I have Auburn winning that one by ten. WSU was 3-9 last season too. Auburn could very well lose that one too!

6-6.

They will go 3-1 or 4-0 OOC.

They will not beat Bama, UGA, LSU, TAMU.

They have a chance against Ole Miss, MSU, UT and Arkansas. They could lose any of those and they could theoretically win any of those. I think 2-2 is realistic. 1-3 would be my 2nd guess.

So that's 6-6, maybe 5-7. 7-5 would be fantastic for them.

Dont forget Auburn has only had a winning conference record once in the past 5 years.

Florida Atlantic will go to *u at 0-7, having lost at Miami, at ECU, at USF, MTSU, at Rice, at UAB, and Marshall. They will not beat *u.
