Here are a couple earlier Summer workout stories
Among the incoming class of freshmen who worked out with the squad this week are Trent Davidson, Aaron Johns, Travis Robinson and Jake Wingo.
Davidson said that he has lost fat and added muscle in the short time he’s been enrolled at Alabama and working out with the squad. Davidson looks ready for early playing time with a 6-6, 258 pound frame.
“I’ve been learning the plays and the formations and have really improved a lot over the last couple of weeks,” the T.R. Miller product said. “When you come to college you’re a little worried about fitting in and being accepted. There’s not a guy on this team who hasn’t made me feel wanted. I’ve worked a lot with the tight ends, but all the guys have really been great.”
Johns, from Thomasville, Ala., is currently living in Tuscaloosa, but does not plan to enroll in school until August. He is participating in pass skel drills with the team. Johns has been learning the ropes at tailback from the likes of Tim Castille, Le’Ron McClain and Kenneth Darby.
Robinson and Wingo both live in Tuscaloosa and have also been involved in the pass skel play. Robinson, a corner who is listed at 5-10, 180, has impressed current members of the squad with his speed and ability to break on the ball.

While Carter is concentrating on his own return this summer, he’s also sharing some of his experience with a receiving corps that is, on the whole, much less experienced. He is already the school’s No. 4 all-time receiver, and he plans to start a master’s degree program in the fall with a goal of becoming a coach, so he has plenty to share with the Tide’s other receivers.
“I think that’s the biggest part of the summer for me, helping the young guys," Carter said. “I really think that everything has happened for a reason and I am here [for a sixth year] to fulfill a purpose. I think that reason is so I can help the younger guys. Coach Cheese [Charlie Harbison] and the other coaches can’t be out there in the summer, so these young guys would be out in left field if they didn’t have someone with some experience around.
“I think the young guys are coming on really well. Matt Caddell and Tyrone Prothro are going to be excellent, and Matt Miller [who was a walk-on quarterback before switching to receiver] is doing really well. Keith Brown [one of Alabama’s 2004 signees] has just joined us, but he looks real athletic. I think it’s a good group, and the work ethic is awesome."
Still, Carter says he’s ready to be a competitor, as well as a mentor for his younger teammates.
“I’m ready to play," he said. “It’s been a long time, but I definitely plan to be out there in the first game."
