High Point or Highlands? I lived in High Point for 15 years and it is hot there. Highlands is in the mtns and cool...one of my favorite places on the earth.
Thank God we got a car this year that has a remote start on it. I can get the AC blasting to 68 degrees before getting in. I don't melt getting in, and don't get third-degree burns on my hands when touching anything inside.
Hot. Damn hot. Plus my AC keeps breaking down. The maintenance people get it "fixed" and it breaks a week later. This has been happening for over a year now. My new job has thought all this time that I was a nice, happy quiet guy until today when they heard me be not so nice and very loud with management at my apartment.
This probably doesn't help you in an apartment - depends on your windows, I guess.
I have central AC but also have a small window unit in my living room window that I can use in emergencies. I will also run it this time of the year to take some of the load off my central system. I just replaced the old 5K BTU unit with a nice quiet 8K BTU Toshiba, that has a few more bells and whistles. I'm still playing around with the settings trying to find the sweet spot.
Point being....having a window unit in addition to your main system can be extremely useful!
In a perfect world, that would be a ductless mini-split I could run off 110v, but this window shaker isn't too shabby. It's all about survival mode this time of year!
Not sure if window units are even allowed in this place. Also I am on the 4th floor. Also also, I have to have blackout curtains in my bedroom because of street lights and a flood light that literally lights up the entire bedroom. The living room is just as bad at night. I am actually looking to get a house by next year. and it again was not working when I got home today.
Tuscaloosa has been really wet so far this year, and more rain expected in the next 7 - 10 days….30% - 40% chances of rain starting Wednesday, and out as far out as predictions go. Given the moisture in the ground from earlier rains, I expect everybody will get some more somewhere along the way.
Because of all the rain, temps have been running below average, and this week are predicted to be 90-93 (depending on your source), right on average. Predictions through August 18 look like more of the same, with highs tailing off into the 80s the farther out you go. Have had only a few days in the mid-90s so far….a string of 3-4 days at 94-95 last week.
Again, because of all the rain and moisture in the ground, and because it’s summer in West Alabama, it’s been humid. Heat indices have been sticky, and the sensationalist news has been screaming about heat indices over 100. But they gotta scream about something, and so far, knock on wood, no actual temps approaching 100.
Yes, if you’re in the sun at 3PM, after a morning shower, it’s hot, it’s humid, and you need a wide-brimmed hat. But it’s August in Alabama…what do you expect? Really hasn’t been a bad summer at all. So far.

South TX has experienced a milder summer. Highs in the low to mid 90’s with lows in the low 70’s. For context, we are usually in the upper 90’s to triple digits with lows in the upper 70’s and low 80’s. More rain than usual but not an over abundance. Humidity has been high and the mosquitoes have been worse than usual!
Same here in Charleston, SC -- wetter and somewhat milder than normal...though the temps have heated up this week. Of course, being on the IR means I haven't played golf since March!!
Cold Here its the end of winter coming into spring but saying that is never really gets cold here in Oz compared to to other places
