I don"t want to play Texas Tech!

Although Clemson turned out to be overrated, I still believe that what we saw in it was proof that, if CNS has that kind of time to prepare for an opponent, you have to like our chances against pretty much anyone. If we make it to 13-0, then with five weeks to prepare and get healthy, look out.

If we make it through the rest of the season and especially Florida to play Texas Tech (if they survive Oklahoma) I don't fear playing anyone in the country.

TT's offense does look pretty formidable. I've watched them for several weeks and they seem to score at will. I agree that they aren't facing defenses as good as ours, but I think dismissing their offense as "smoke and mirrors" is kind of like whistling past the graveyard. Their success comes from almost perfect execution. Their QB is very, very good and rarely makes a bad throw. And his receivers are physical and very athletic.

But, that is not to say they can't be stopped. The key is to disrupt their timing. If you can jam their receivers at the LOS and get pressure on their QB, then they won't be nearly as effective. Also, after McClain and Hightower slam their WRs a few times then you might see some drops and guys changing their routes to avoid the hits. All of that disrupts their passing game. I also haven't seen any teams running blitzes and changing things up as much as our defense.

Bottom line -- I think TT is very good and will be hard to stop. But I also think we have the personnel to match up pretty well. And CNS will put together a plan that will throw more at them than any team they've faced this year. It should be a very interesting match-up.

Next week this time, this will all be a moot point. Oklahoma will DESTROY Tech Saturday in Norman. That game, for the Sooners, is their statement to still be in National Championship talk. And as much as I like Leech, I take Stoops 9.5 times out of 10.

Are you kidding me? How long have you been around football? I learned in high school in order to be the best you got to play the best. You never win anything if you are afraid to take on the strong contenders. Bring on Fla, TT, UT, USC west, or OKLA. If we loose then the better team won. If we win ahhhhhh. The Alabama way is to be the best, and beat the best.

Roll Tide

the thing about Tt is their Oline, they are all in the 6-6, 325-340 range except the center. that is why they are winning, Harrell has all day to throw.

People who are afraid of TT are buying into the media hype and style points. TT and Florida are two teams the media just loves. They are also two teams that get a lot of style points.

That's not Alabama's game. Most of the time we are not pretty. We have a very methodical football team. We have a sort of a throwback football team and this is not popular today with wide open offenses that throw the ball all over the place. As CNS said we have a blue collar football team and this does not always translate to winning pretty and getting style points.

TT has a good football team. I won't take anything away from them, but I am confident our offense will man handle their defense and they won't be the same high flying offense going against our D.

I'm just saying I would rather play USC or Texas or anyone over that Tech team.

No offense intended, but I really have to question how someone would rather play Southern Cal in a bowl game than Texas Tech. USC finds a way to lose a regular season game every year, but when it comes to bowl time, they become focused and play to their potential.

Mississippi State first, then another team down the road, and then the SECCG.
Texas Tech goes to Norman next weekend to face a team every bit as good them, if not better. They can take care of their destiny and we will take care of ours. Roll Tide!!!!!

The thing that blows my mind about TT and the big 12 in general is it seems their defenses and especially their back sevens are really undersized. Seems like a lot of the time the receivers are bigger than even the linebackers, so they can line them up on the slower LB's across the middle all day long. The receiver smokes the LB and makes a 5'10" 175 lb. safety miss and he's in the endzone.

That's not even to mention the crazy soft coverage the big 12 corners play. Half the people on this board could probably make some of the throws those big 12 QB's make because the receivers have nobody within 5 yards of them.

TT doesn't scare me. I think Florida will probably be our biggest test of the year, even if we go to the MNC. They don't scare me either though. Bring on the best. That way if we win there's no excuses about who we COULD HAVE lost to if we had played them.

Before this weekend I was actually afraid that we'd whip Penn State in the MNC and all we'd hear about is how we would have gotten killed if we had played X big 12 team. Now, if we do make it to the MNCG, there will be no excuses.

Mike Leach remembers the '06 Cotton Bowl, it left a sour taste in his mouth that we contained and primarly shut down his offense. I agree I don't think we would want to play them, but then again with that much time to prepare for them (if we are both able to get the NC Game) Nick Saban is a defensive junkie whom will come with great schemes. I personally belief Florida will be a much tougher task because you never know what kind of play they may run on offense

Give Nick Saban a month to prepare and my money would be on him. Texas Tech is an outstanding team and look great against Big 12 opponents. You just have to think back to the last two NC games against SEC teams. OSU was going to destroy Florida and LSU. Ha ha.

Florida is going to be a tough, tough game but the coaching staff will have two weeks to work on that one. We get through them OK and I like our chances.

All I can say is...............
If we get past Miss St, Aubarn, and then beat Florida in the SEC title game.

Bring on Texas Tech........ Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

:BigA: ROLL TIDE :BigA:

All i have to say is pressure on the QB. I have watched TT 3 times this year and noone has hit TTs QB. If you hit him he will not throw for 450 on Bama. Ask Hawaii about the QB getting hit over and over and over by an SEC defense.

I didn't read the entire thread, but does anyone remember what a much thinner, much less talented 2005 Alabama defense did to Texas Tech's vaunted offense?

They are undefeated because they haven't faced a defense that sends its opposition to the bench escorted by the training staff.

Florida is a much more capable opponent than TTU. They've played SEC defenses and, while one of them beat the Gaytors, at least they know what to expect.

That is rediculous BamaGAAAA. I was pulling for Bama when you were peeing your pants. Don't question my loyalty!

I'm just saying I would rather play USC or Texas or anyone over that Tech team.

I'd rather play Texas Tech than USC any day of the week. The only type of team that can give us a great deal of trouble is one that lines up and plays toe to toe with us...like LSU. USC could do that. We would run over, through, and around Texas Techs defense, and our defense has the speed to shut down their receivers. It wouldn't be a close game.
We don't have to worry about that anyway cause Oklahoma's gonna eat Techs lunch in a couple of weeks.

USC? Toe to toe with the SEC's best? They're good, but come on. ;)

They struggled to hang 17 on a middlin' Cal defense that ranks right up there with Vandy.

The only team I would be concerned about going toe to toe with is Oklahoma. That is probably the finest OL in college football, and they are protecting one of the finest young QB's in the game as well. I don't know what happened to their defense against Texas, but that is a scary good football team.
