I Don't Know Where to Start With The Team (Literally - No Teaser)

I said that a few times yesterday. It was really bad. It seems that maybe some things need to be simplified because I can't believe this many four and five star players can be recruiting misses. It doesn't look like anyone from the coaching staff to the players is on the same page. It was ugly and confusing how we could look so inept. I hope it gets better.
It seems our recruiters forgot they also need to coach.

This has been a fair criticism of CNS and right now it smarts with reality a little. It's why some believe he held on t Golding for so long. Golding could recruit!

I think it's a true narrative that CNS has out recruited most programs and some of our winning has simply been because we just had better, bigger and faster "jimmies and joes."

It seems the portal has leveled the playing field somewhat so the game day coaching is under a heavier spotlight.

As is positional coaching during the week, where we also seem to be lacking.

Bingo! The transfer portal accomplished what the football scholarship reductions between 1972-1992 was intended to do, level the playing field. I hope CNS hasn't put all his emphasis on recruiting at the expense of developing and coaching. This has been my fear for sometime, that the staff can bring in highly recruited players every cycle, but it appears that there is no one to coach them. I said in another thread that the transfer portal gives a program a do-over in poor recruiting.

Sanders if being praised for what he's doing with a bunch of free agents.

It's seems crazy, but if this year's teams blows up (in a bad way) I wouldn't rule out CNS trying to do something similar with the portal.

We might not like it, but if CNS did it and won another NC it would be another feather in his cap.

But, to your concern, at some point you have to coach up the guys you get no matter what.

Think the biggest mistake is trying to revert the offense back to a ground and pound. Our main formation seems to be two tight personell. And again there are no schemes or tricks or shot plays or anything like that.

I dont think you can blame that on all 3 QB's. Its the OC.

Saban runs the D. The D is fine. We've made a major wiff on our last 2 OC hires... and whats made matters worse is both Kiffin and Sark were so good offensively it makes BOB and TR look even worse.

Two of my best buddies played as walk on at Notre Dame and are now successful in life. Smart guys. They were stunned that a program like Bama would want Rees as their OC. They felt he was very vanilla and completely lacked creativity. Not horrible, but hardly someone who made much of a difference. They were even more shocked that Bama brought in TB, who they couldn't imagine leading a high level SEC program at QB. Most folks here assured me a few months ago when I wrote this, that the GOAT knew a lot more about football than my two buddies.....and he surely does. That said, when it comes to judging talent, players and coaching, its always an educated guess.

As for who should be playing QB, behind our atrocious line is still very much up for debate. Ty did a few good things, but we can't forget the opponent gave up 300 yards passing to WKU the week before. Its hard to say he is any better than Milroe at this point. Hard to imagine we're in this spot.
